Location description from owner

The England region

Carnaquidden Barn is situated on the edge of West Penwith, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Just three hundred yards down the lane is Chysauster Ancient Village, an Iron Age settlement and English Heritage site over two thousand years old.
The barn is ideally situated for walking and exploring the surrounding ancient moorland via bridleways and countryside paths. With both St Ives and Penzance just a short drive away, the barn is a great base for all that West Cornwall has to offer, from shopping to surfing. Attractions include the Minack Theatre, golf courses, horse-riding, and some of the best quality beaches in the country.

Penzance

Places to go / things to do….

Carnaquidden Barn is perfectly placed for you to explore the West Penwith peninsula. Both the North and South coasts are a ten minute drive away, and the towns of Penzance (5 miles) and St Ives (7 miles) are within easy reach. All around is stunning scenery, packed with prehistoric remains, providing some fabulous walking.

Why not……

Pack up a picnic (and a rug!) and head off to an open-air performance at the renowned Minack Theatre.

Go riding. Just up the lane is Tremenheere Riding Stables (tremenheereridingstables) who offer small group lessons for all ages and abilities, scenic hacks, and beautiful beach rides.

Hire a bike and cycle the family-friendly route from Penzance to Mousehole, almost entirely off-road and about a 10 mile round trip.

Go seal spotting at Godrevy Head, on the Eastern side of St Ives Bay. If you want to get up close and personal with seals, take a day trip to the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek.

Take a walk through standing stones and subterranean passages - the local landscape is littered with prehistoric remains. Chysauster Ancient Village is a few hundred yards up the road (April to October ). You can also explore the area's more recent history. Pull on a safety hat and go down an 18th century mine at Geevor. Or take a pilgrimage to St Michael's Mount.

Several boats operate out of Penzance and offer all sorts of trips. You can choose from two, four or eight hour fishing trips, or even charter a whole boat.

Take surfing lessons at Sennen or St Ives.
Go sea cliff climbing around Sennen and Landsend. Compass West, based in Sennen, offer climbing lessons.
Try coasteering - climb, scramble, swim and jump your way around the coastline.

Visit some gorgeous gardens…...
Tremenheere sculpture gardens is just down the road. Other gardens in and around Penzance include Trewidden, Trereife and Trengwainton, and towards Helston there is Godolphin House and Gardens, and the Trevarno Estate. Further afield are Trelissick gardens near Truro, Trebah near Falmouth and the Lost Gardens of Heligan near St Austell.

Explore all the brilliant beaches nearby., www. cornwall-beaches. The north coast has secluded rocky coves, whilst the south has some long stretches of sand.

It's really a very nice neat and tidy cottage. Got everything we need. Interior is eye catching. has a very massive dinning come kitchen. Inside plenty of space. It's well furnished. Bedrooms are gorgeous and all wooden furniture, big shower.the kitchen is fully equipped with expensive oven , grill and hob. Lot of parking space even have facilities to wash car. The back garden is really beautiful, full of plants and a small spring. Have bbq facilities. thanks to the host John and Sue for giving all the information we needed and also prepared our cottage 2 hours early the time we suppose to check in.i really appreciate for the help. Every one love this place. Will book again when we come cornwall next. :D

Owner's reply: Hi Afzal, Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review. Great to hear you all enjoyed your time in Cornwall. We look forward to welcoming you back, should you be back this way. All best wishes, John and Sue

“Wow absolutely stunning home!”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2017

We have been to Cornwall a number of times and each time have booked a holiday home and have done similarly for other holidays throughout the UK. We can safely say though that this home gives the perfect balance between amazing accommodation and it being a relaxing and welcoming home and is definitely our favourite by far to date. The details which are often missed at other houses were here in abundance with us never having that moment of "oh they haven't got a ...." The location of the house was so tranquil and the garden and little river flowing through were an ideal sun trap to enjoy tea outside. Our three year old also loved the house and was blown away by the books, toys, games and teddies in "her bedroom". The welcome pack we received was a lovely start to the holiday after a long journey and the Easter chicks and cholates dotted through the house had our daughter so excited! The only slight word of warning is that the wifi is really poor but after a day of getting used to it just helped us relax even more. A perfect house and the first we are genuinely already considering heading back to already

Owner's reply: Hi John, So glad you had such a great time, and thanks for your very kind words. Yes, the wi-fi is a bit pants - we are on the end of a very long bit of BT string! But we try to compensate with lots of books, DVDs and games. As you say, it does no harm to go "off-grid" for a while. We hope to welcome you all back soon. All best, John and Sue

“Delightful 'bolt-hole'”

Tucked away in a peaceful location, this proved to be excellent accommodation for a family of 3 generations.A warm and extremely comfortable haven in stormy weather, but not too far from excellent beaches and walks when the sun came out. We also enjoyed the selection of board games provided. This was our second visit, and we hope to return later in the year.

Owner's reply: Hello Jill Thanks so much for your review, and glad to hear you all had a good break , despite storm Doris! Really hope you can get back down again later this year, Best, Sue
