Description

Completely refurbished and extended for our first season in 2010, with major improvements and further refurbishments in 2016. Sorgente combines the beauty of period features with state-of-the-art amenities such as a heat recovery system (benefiting allergy/asthma suffers) and a Pozzani water filter. Solid oak flooring, traditional sash windows and thick stone walls create a timeless backdrop for a modern interior with a distinctly Mediterranean flavor, inspired by our time spent in Italy. The spacious open plan living room is equipped with a wood-burning stove and leads to the fully equipped kitchen with patio doors opening to a sunny enclosed garden and BBQ area. Upstairs there are a double and twin bedroom providing a high degree of comfort with quality mattresses and bed linens. The luxurious, well lit, bathroom which includes a rain shower with additional hand-held shower, large bath, bidet and Italian porcelain tiles is situated between the two rooms.

Note - the bath is high-sided and we do not have a walk-in shower, this should be considered by those who are elderly and/or physically infirm.

We welcome babies and young children too, there are stair gates at the top and bottom of the stairs and a highchair is always available. We do not offer any cots for infants or a changing table/mat. However we do provide a baby bath which can be used in the bath.

We are pleased that we are able to offer accommodation more suited to asthma and allergy sufferers and have a strict non-smoking, no pets policy.

The name Sorgente, an Italian word meaning 'water source', is quite befitting for this traditional character cottage because not only is it within a short stroll of the scenic river and quayside in Penryn, but also because it can mean 'source of energy' – the very substance of a relaxing and re-energising holiday.

Getting around

We recommend using a car to explore this part of Cornwall. It is possible also to use public transport, there is a branch line from Truro which services Penryn and Falmouth. From Truro it is possible to travel towards Penzance or Plymouth. Buses also run to these places and many more in between, however the journey time eats away at your precious holiday time. Main bus station is in Falmouth but all buses from there pass through Penryn, either along Commercial Road, or up through Penryn town centre. Penryn train station is a steep climb from the cottage, but close.

Interaction with guest

We ask for your mobile number so that we may send any important information to you during your stay, as well as receiving the code for entrance for self-check-in. You will have our personal contact numbers to call us at anytime. Otherwise we would like to leave you in peace to enjoy your holiday without interuption. If you book 14 nights then our housekeeper will arrive in the morning of the second Friday to change bedding and towels usually between 10 am and 11 am.

House rules

Generally guests are welcome to arrive from 3pm on Fridays (rarely on other days unless circumstances allow). This is to ensure the cottage is prepared for your arrival. There is free on-street parking in front of the cottage, with other free parking nearby. Departure is by 10am. Elderly/infirm - Note that the luxury bathroom has high-sided bath, no hand rails and the rain shower is not walk-in.

This property is for 4 guests only, plus an infant under 24 months at time of holiday check-out.

“Good location”

The location of the cottage is good, Falmouth is a short drive away as are several lovely beaches and gardens. The cottage is well equipped with essentials and was clean. However, we had some issues regarding the bathroom, parking and the garden due to a disability problem. The shower has no curtain or screen and water floods the floor and sometimes leaks outside onto the landing. Also, the bath is very deep and has no handle, again an issue for someone with Multiple Sclerosis who therefore needed assistance when getting in and out of the shower. This caused a number of problems. Parking outside the property is not always guaranteed and often tricky to navigate. We would say that this cottage isn't entirely disability friendly.

Owner's reply: We understand about the hand rail, it is something that we already have on our list of changes. This will be done as soon as there is a time when we have no guests. With regard to using the shower, in the eight years that we have been running Sorgente, we have never had this issue, water splashing has never been so bad that it forms puddles or, as it seems in this case, flows out of the bathroom door and into the hallway. Any guests comments about the bathroom have been complimemtary and in fact they like the open stylish design. The floor gets wet yes, under normal use even with very enthusiastic kids the amount it has always stayed inside the bathroom, and dries quickly. The bathroom floor is sealed. On our description page, second paragraph: "Note - the bath is high-sided and we do not have a walk-in shower, this should be considered by those who are elderly and/or physically infirm." The whole house and garden can be seen on Trip Advisor, therefore the suitability of the garden should have been apparent to you. We are limited to the amount of text we can place in our descriptions, therefore we cannot add every detail and every issue that a guest may encounter. However I shall revisit the text and clarify where I can. As I said, we have nothing but glowing reviews and comments, only our location is sometimes marked down because we are not on a beach or have spectacular views. We are honest and do not wish to mislead people. We do our upmost to help guests. Stated in the cottage welcome information: "contact us or the property manager immediately if anything is not to your liking, missing, not working correctly or for anything else you are not sure of. Please do not wait until the end of your holiday to tell us." This is because we genuinely want to solve anything AS and WHEN it arises and not have guests put up with something that may not like during their holiday. Telling us after the holiday does not help them. It is unfortunate that you did not inform us of this issue before or during your stay, we would have been able to help and have prevented all this happening. Drying a wet carpet with a hair drier is not approiate and in fact dangerous. I am truly sorry that lost your deposit but for our future guests we had to replace the burny carpet. It is unlikely that in the future we shall install a shower curtain or screen, however should you choose to stay again, we would endeavour to provide a solution to cope with the access water on the floor. As you are now familiar with the property, you know what to expect, although judging from your recent comments you may well have changed your mind about staying in the future. This would be unfortunate, as originally you did say that it was perfect and you all enjoyed it so much and wanted to return. You are welcome anytime!
