Description from owner

Description

Completely refurbished and extended for our first season in 2010, with major improvements and further refurbishments in 2016. Sorgente combines the beauty of period features with state-of-the-art amenities such as a heat recovery system (benefiting allergy/asthma suffers) and a Pozzani water filter. Solid oak flooring, traditional sash windows and thick stone walls create a timeless backdrop for a modern interior with a distinctly Mediterranean flavor, inspired by our time spent in Italy. The spacious open plan living room is equipped with a wood-burning stove and leads to the fully equipped kitchen with patio doors opening to a sunny enclosed garden with BBQ and furniture. Upstairs there are a double and twin bedroom providing a high degree of comfort with quality mattresses and bed linens. The luxurious, well lit, bathroom which includes a rain shower with addition hand-held shower, large bath, bidet and Italian porcelain tiles is situated between the two rooms.

Note - the bath is high-sided and we do not have a walk-in shower, this should be considered by those who are elderly and/or physically infirm.

We welcome babies and young children too, there are stair gates at the top and bottom of the stairs and a highchair is always available. We do not however offer any cots for infants or a changing table/matt.

We are pleased that we are able to offer accommodation more suited to asthma and allergy sufferers and have a strict non-smoking, no pets policy.

The name Sorgente, an Italian word meaning 'water source', is quite befitting for this traditional character cottage because not only is it within a short stroll of the scenic river and quayside in Penryn, but also because it can mean 'source of energy' – the very substance of a relaxing and re-energising holiday.

We are sure that you will enjoy staying in our home away from home as much as we do, please leave us comments in the guest book during your stay, on our online Blog, or write a review on Trip Advisor, Owners Direct or indeed on our own webiste.

Also be sure to check for any special offers, and view the positive guestbook entries on our website!

Location description from owner

The England region

Sorgente is an excellent touring base situated along the original main route from Penryn to Truro and is within a 6 minute drive to Falmouth with 4 sandy beaches.

Penryn is one of Cornwall's most ancient towns and is now a conservation area bestowing a wealth of old world charm, character and history, most evident from its impressive Tudor and Georgian architecture. Within a short drive is Falmouth, Cornwall's internationally recognised seaport and home to the world's third largest natural harbour. Today it is a vibrant place giving home to quaint streets, small passageways, galleries, a restaurant, a wine bar, pubs and cafes. Within walking distance of the cottage is the town quayside on the creek that leads to the wide stretch of sailing waters of Carrick roads and Falmouth Bay. Here a variety of traditional craft are moored next to the modern Jubilee Wharf with its caf and shops.

Falmouth is within a 5 minute drive and is a fantastic location for all ages with its fabulous choice of beaches, challenging golf course and the National Maritime Museum.

his is a vibrant year round resort offering something for everyone with world class beaches, restaurants and a coastal golf course. It boasts a flourishing contemporary arts scene with numerous galleries and embraces its cultural heritage with the celebrated National Maritime Museum.

Penryn

Historic background to the area.

Originally called Peny-cwm-cuic, which later became 'Pennycomequick', it was the site where Henry VIII built Pendennis Castle to defend Carrick Roads, in 1540. The main town was at Penryn with Sir John Killigrew creating the town of Falmouth shortly after 1613. In the late 16th century, under threat from the Spanish Armada, the defences at Pendennis were strengthened by the building of angled ramparts. During the Civil War, Pendennis Castle was the second to last fort to surrender to the Parliamentary Army.

The Falmouth Packet Service operated out of Falmouth for over 160 years between 1689 and 1851. Its purpose was to carry mail to and from Britain's growing empire. As the most south-westerly good harbour in Great Britain Falmouth was often the first port for returning Royal Navy ships. The news of Britain's victory, and Admiral Nelson's death, at Trafalgar was landed here from the schooner Pickle and taken to London by stagecoach. In 1839 Falmouth was the scene of the gold dust robbery when £4,600 worth of gold dust from Brazil was stolen on arrival at the port.

PENRYN (Cornish: Pennrynn, from Pen-ryn meaning 'promontory')

An ancient town, once a thriving port and a centre for commerce, is reputed to be one of Cornwall's oldest and best surviving historic towns. In the medieval period it was an important harbour in its own right, exporting granite and tin. Here a variety of traditional craft are moored next to the modern Jubilee Wharf with its café and shops.

FALMOUTH (Cornish: Aberfal)

Falmouth is within a 5 minute drive and is a fantastic location for all ages with its fabulous choice of beaches, challenging golf course and the National Maritime Museum. Boasts four sandy beaches and its vibrant town centre, home to the National Maritime Museum and interesting mix of restaurants, pubs, art galleries and boutique and high street shops, is within a drive or cycle ride. With the world's third deepest natural harbour on the door step, there is no shortage of spectacle and entertainment with the coming and going of sailing and pleasure boats and a host of water sports activities.
