We are situated in the peaceful village of Gamblesby, nestled under Hartside Fell and surrounded by amazing scenery and wildlife. Once you discover our little sanctuary, you won't want to leave !

Downstairs: There is cosy Kitchen / Dining / Living room.

Upstairs: Consists of a Double Bedroom with exposed beams and adjoining Bathroom, with full size bath and overhead electric shower.

Electricity is not included in the rental charge and is charged at 25p per kwh (non profit charge), payable by debit/credit card (details taken on arrival) or cash at the end of the holiday.

We also request a £50 refundable damages deposit payable on arrival and returned within a week of departure by BACS.

Church Court Cottages consist of four beautiful red sandstone cottages situated together around the courtyard, with a parking space for each property. They are ideal for individuals, couples, families and larger groups. Bookings can be taken for one or multiple

Individual cottages sleep 2 or 4, with a maximum occupancy of 8 for all three cottages. They are located in the peaceful village of Gamblesby, in the Eden Valley, 20 minutes drive from Penrith (M6 - junction 40).

The England region

Cumbria is England's second largest county and has most of England's lakes, highest mountains and the highest café. It also has all the Lake District National Park, part of the Yorkshire Dales and part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In the middle is the Eden Valley, an unspoilt haven, close to the Lakes but far from the crowds.

It also has easy access to Carlisle, Gretna Green, Newcastle and of course Scotland.

Penrith

Penrith is our local market town, conveniently located (only 20 mins away) - close to the M6 motorway and on the main west coast railway line. Although it is only 6 miles from stunning Lake Ullswater it doesn't live from tourism like Keswick or Windermere. It is a great place for food with lots of cafés, restaurants, pubs, a farmers market, old fashioned grocers shops and modern supermarkets. Near Penrith is the Eden Valley with Lacy's Caves, Long Meg & her daughters, Coombs Wood and attractions such as Eden Ostrich World, Penrith Laser Wars, Eden Soaring (gliding) as well as the South Tynedale Railway, the Hub museum & Nenthead mines up in the North Pennines.

Getting around

The Eden Valley is a destination in itself and is one of England's least populated and most un-spoilt landscapes. It has wonderful opportunities for walking, cycling, visiting historic houses, enjoying the wildlife and even stargazing. It is within easy reach of Hadrian's Wall, as well as the spectacular Lake District and the wild walking of the Pennines. There is plenty to do even around the village and local areal - look out for red squirrels, barn owls, badgers, deer and many other animals and birds. Some of the fine local houses include Acorn Bank, Hutton in the Forest, Dalemain and Lowther Castle. Why not journey on the Settle-Carlisle railway or boat on Lake Ullswater to name a few possibilities !

We look forward to welcoming all our guests and work hard to ensure everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable stay. We hope that people will treat their cottage with love as it is nearly 400 years old (old (so please excuse the odd cobweb – the spiders around here work very hard :>) ! When checking out, we would really appreciate it if guests would be kind enough to leave their cottage clean and tidy ready for our next guests (see checkout information in the cottage).. If you need any assistance during your stay, please don't hesitate to ask (we are on hand most of the time but do appreciate people using office hrs), and if there are any problems/breakages etc please let us know as soon as possible so we can arrange repairs/replace items.

“A great place to stay”

Wonderful welcome with a bottle of wine in the fridge. The owners Mark and Patricia stayed in the background but were always there if needed. The cottage was well presented and suited our needs. Great walking country and we walked every day. Good pub for meals in Melmerby the next village, great portions, too much really. Rest assured we will be back in the near future.
