Description

Penpont is one of the finest Grade 1 listed houses in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The house was built in 1666, the descendants still live there today, and it is the centre of a working rural estate.

Penpont lies about 4 miles west of Brecon on the A40. The driveway meanders through a small tree plantation, through a magnificant stand of mature Beech trees and then on past the Dower House and finally to the house itself.

The house lies right next to the River Usk and is surrounded by 40 acres of grounds and gardens which guests are encouraged to enjoy and explore.

The self catering Courtyard Wing can be found to the rear of the main house. It has its own entrance through an enclosed flagged courtyard and can sleep up to 15 people within six bedrooms. Further details

The owners live in the main house and currently have 3 dogs and 2 outside cats.

Further details indoors

The Courtyard Wing is reached by a flight of steep wooden stairs to the first floor and occupies the first and second floors of the west wing. The wing is cosy and homely, well decorated and generous. The Sitting Room is small but comfortable and has a woodburner. The large kitchen table is big enough to seat everyone, there are modern units, an old dresser, bold checked curtains and wonderful views of the river. The bedrooms are simple, attractive with a mix of old furniture, stand alone basins and plain carpets.

Further details outdoors

Penpont has masses of space for everyone. There is a south facing terrace next to the 19th conservatory and near to the Wing for BBQ's, a large front lawn for rounders, croquet and football. You can explore the Victorian 'pleasure walk' which takes you through a tunnel under the road, enjoy the peace of the walled gardens or paddle in the river and if brave enough swim. You can visit the farmshop which sells fresh, organic produce from the gardens (open from June to December) or get lost in The Greenman Maze!

Location description from owner

The Wales region

Penpont is not a village or hamlet it is simply the name of the house with all its surrounding historic outbuildings lying in the centre of a working rural estate. It is a brilliant base for those keen on walking or cycling and there is alot to see and explore within the grounds & gardens of Penpont - no need to get in your car!

Brecon, an old market town, is only 4 miles from Penpont. There is a cathedral (with a great tea room), cinema, museum, a bookshop and several art galleries, a theatre which is located next to the canal basin and a selection of shops - supermarkets as well as individual retailers. There is a farmers market once a month.

There are various annual events and festivals which take place in Brecon as well as the surrounding area.

Penpont

This area is definitely the place to come and 'get away from it all'. It has space and fresh air with a wonderful backdrop of stunning scenery.

You could choose to stay 'on site' or visit the many places of interest nearby - from the National Botanic Gardens of Wales to the bookshops in Hay- on- Wye: From pony trekking in the hills to canoeing on the rivers, walk, cycle or just relax and chat to your gathered family and friends.
