“Great Experience”

Reviewed 14 May 2015

Sandra, the owner, came out of the house to greet us on our arrival and showed us through the place. Entering this property classified as a backpackers hostel we were impressed by the cleanliness and how well ordered everything was. As retirees we stayed in the double room. It was a great room, with our own bathroom and toilet. Sandra our host most obviously loves what she does. It was spotlessly clean and we felt welcome and at home in the first 10 minutes. When we stayed there were a few young guys there who were very courteous and considerate and we enjoyed chatting with them. One of them explained that the large chocolate slab of cake on the breakfast table was for all of us....from Sandra. So, very kind of the owner. Every day there was a bowl of beautiful fresh apples to enjoy. Sandra thank you.

“Just be awesome”

Our trip to Penola cant be more wonderful with the host's hospitality. We just feel so friendly, trustful and welcoming in a new town. Astonishingly. # Absolutely recommended.

“Our family of 5 found Penolabackpackers very comforatable and well appointed and would definitely stay again.”

Reviewed 24 Mar 2014

Our family of 5 stayed overnight in the double room for the parents and the 3 teenage boys shared a 4 bunk room. The house is in a great spot in the main street close to all shops/hotels etc. and next to the park. We brought food for dinner and it was easy to cook in the lovely kitchen and BBQ just outside. It certainly had all the comforts of home and the boys enjoyed the big flat screen TV and the free WiFi. Bathroom facilities were numerous and very good and the whole place homely and clean. it suited our family very well and we would stay again!

“Amazing value for money”

Short review - price is spectacular and the facilities are clean and well maintained. The owner is friendly, accommodating and very helpful. We had a wonderful time and will stay at this property any time we are in the region.

“Don't be put off by the term "Backpackers" !”

Reviewed 31 Jan 2014

This backpacker accommodation is good and more comfortable than the usual. We stayed in the room with a queen bed and its own toilet and wash basin. The kitchen was large and very well equipped even down to flowers and recipe books! There are plenty of bathrooms. Our host, the owner Sandra Smith who has a property out of town, made an effort to meet us and we benefited from her local knowledge. She recommended Petticoat Lane – a street of slab huts preserved as they were in 1860s by the local national trust. Also the pub which Mary Mackillop’s aunt ran and the school where Mary MacKillop acted as a governess. A ideal base for those doing some wine tasting in Coonawarra. Undercover parking at the rear, butcher shop across the road and supermarket within walking distance. BBQ at the back ideal for those wanting to try some of the local red wine. Industrial washing machine also handy. Town swimming pool across the road.

“lovely host with upscale feel”

The owner was extremely helpful and friendly. My partner and I stayed in a private room, which was very nice. The inside of the house is mostly updated (minus the bathroom) but has everything you could need and more!

“Fantastic! - a real gem in Penola & Coonawarra”

Reviewed 1 Feb 2013

Stayed for 1 night on a 5 day road trip. This was the most memorable accommodation of the trip. Everything was new and spotlessly clean. The house is very spacious and very well set up. All beds are large and very comfortable. Situated across from a park and on the edge of Penola's shops it's the ideal location - and quiet at the same time. I'll be coming back!
