The Pembrokeshire region
Hidden away on the coast of West Wales, Pembrokeshire, with its lush rolling countryside and pristine white sandy beaches, is surely amongst the most beautiful areas in Britain. No other county in the UK has more Blue Flag or Seaside Award beaches and with over 50 beaches to choose from you're sure to find the perfect one for you wether you're looking for surfing and water sports or somewhere peaceful to relax and enjoy the sun and sandcastles!
There are many small islands off the coast of Pembrokeshire, the most well known being Caldey, Ramsey and Skomer. During the summer months regular boat trips are available for day trips to explore these islands which are home to thousands of puffins, gannets and other sea birds. The deep waters off Pembrokeshire are also a good place to view amazing marine animals such as whales, dolphins, seals and porpoises. In addition to this, the coast of Pembrokeshire offers unrivalled opportunities for fishing and to celebrate the vast amount of fresh fish available off the shores, the county holds a "Pembrokeshire Fish Week" which is full of family friendly activities that take place throughout the county.
Steeped in history and filled with charming villages and quaint market towns, Pembrokeshire, already a favourite location of photographers and artists, has also captured the imagination of Hollywood directors who have chosen the area as the perfect backdrop for a number of films.
With 186 miles of coastal footpaths to explore, mild winter weather and a diverse range of activities, Pembrokeshire is the ideal location for your holiday or short break at any time of the year.
To the west of Tenby, overlooking the impressive golf course and South Beach, the peaceful hamlet of Penally is made up of just two shops, a pub and a post office, with a popular nightclub on the outskirts. The 13th Century village church displays a memorial to the victims of the Tenby lifeboat who drowned when it capsized in 1834 and is also home to the restored Penally Celtic Cross, which dates back to the 10th Century.
The village's close proximity to popular Pembrokeshire destinations such as Lydstep, Saundersfoot and Pembroke make it an ideal holiday spot and, through the golf course, neighbouring Tenby is easily accessible on foot.
