Description

The Old Pigeonnier is a delightful stone-built gite constructed in the early 1800s. Located in a stunning, quiet, rural area but only 10 minutes drive from the bustling, picturesque villages of Duras, Eymet and Miramont.

Fully refurbished, the upstairs bedroom is a bright, airy mezzanine room with lovely views over the French countryside. It can be configured with either a super king sized bed or two 3ft single beds. Downstairs is an open-plan sitting/dining room and kitchen and a separate generous sized shower room.

The kitchen is well equipped with a full sized oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher etc. We supply a welcome pack of coffee, tea, fresh milk, bread, butter and of course a bottle of our excellent local wine!

Bed linen and towels are provided and are changed weekly.

Outside in the large courtyard is a covered terraced area with seating ideal for outdoor eating and relaxing. The views surrounding the property are far reaching

Outside in the large courtyard is a covered terraced area with seating ideal for outdoor eating and relaxing. The views surrounding the property are far reaching and deer can often be seen grazing. We have resident barn owls and hen harriers and other beautiful birds of prey can often be seen overhead.

There is a secluded salt water swimming pool (10m X 5m with Roman steps) surrounded by a sunbathing terrace where there are sun loungers and umbrellas for your use. Pool towels can be provided on request. (The pool is used only occasionally by the owners!)

Des and Sarah, the owners live on-site with their two dogs Harry and Ozzie and are very willing to offer advice and to be on hand should you have any queries - however your privacy will be respected at all times.

Dogs are welcome, but must not be allowed on the furniture or beds. They must be supervised at all times.

We regret that due to the steep staircase, The Old Pigeonnier is not suitable for people with mobility issues.

Location description from owner

The Aquitaine region

Where to start! There is such variety of things to see and do - a train ride to Bordeaux - the cleanest, most easy-to get-around, vibrant city is a exciting place to visit.
St Emillion, Bergerac, St Foye le Grande - all delightful places......

Being a prune growing region, there are some great walks to be had around the orchards and for those chocolate lovers a visit to the Chocolaterie in Duras. is a must. Sample from the array of handmade chocolates before you buy. Especially good are the chocolate covered prunes - delicious!

Pardaillan

All the villages in the surrounding area have such a lot to offer, beautiful old buildings, quaint villages, a plethora of restaurants, some excellent golf courses, some absolutely fabulous walks and some fantastic vinyards to sample the local wines. Throughout the summer Night Markets are held in several of the villages and are a must to visit - offering not only the usual splendid French market fare, but live music and street food stands where you can sample a wide choice of freshly cooked and delicious local foods. Top of the list of things to do !!

For cyclists and walkers there are many scenic routes to take through the orchards and vineyards - details of which can be given on your arrival. Bicycles can be hired locally at a reasonable cost.

“Perfection”

Reviewed 3 Sep 2016

My husband and I stayed in The Old Pigeonnier for 8 days in the heat of August and had the most tranquil, relaxing and peaceful stay. We could not have asked for more - it was a piece of paradise! The accommodation is delightfully renovated and has everything you could need for a holiday. There is a gorgeous swimming pool that was very well used, given that one day the temperature hit 48*!! Although on first impact, the property seems to be very remote, once you get accustomised to your surroundings, you aren't as far away from life as you think! There are some stunning places very close by including some fab local markets. Shopping is easy in a variety of supermarkets nearby and there are some gorgeous restaurants near too. The gite owners, Des and Sarah are on hand for advice and help and are great company. They also have 2 ridiculously gorgeous dogs, Ozzie and Harry, who came to see us every day. All in all, we came away from this holiday completely relaxed and rejuvenated. It was absolutely fabulous and we would have no hesitation in recommending it. We hope to return one day!

“Lovely rural gite!”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2016

We had a fantastic stay in rural France. A lovely location, fantastic rustic property. The gite itself is well equipped with everything you need. It stayed cool in the heat - with a ceiling fan. We managed to watch some of the Olympics in the evening. There is wifi - you need to go nearer the main house. The swimming pool was large and refresing. We didn't dare take a dip on the cooler days but it was lovely in the heat. Loads of stunning towns nearby - and we even managed a trip to Bordeux. Thank-you Sarah, Des, ozzy and Harry!

“Excellent Gite, friendly and attentive owners”

Reviewed 28 Jun 2016

The Gite was excellent, spotlessly clean, homely with lovely welcome pack bread, cheese butter, tea, coffee, sugar and wine. Sarah and Des were very friendly and offered very useful advice on places to see etc. Sarah and Des's dogs are lovely. Good wi-fi access but might need to sit close to Sarah and Des's house at times, Good free sat TV if you want to keep in touch with news or favourite prog. The location is very tranquil. Saw owl in barn next to Gite, and during our stay on several occasions saw birds of prey. Definitely excellent place for a quiet retreat, we found sat nav very useful since we visited lots of towns and villages during our stay. Would recommend this Gite for a lovely getaway.
