Location description from owner
The Costa Brava region
ABOUT THE AREA
The Villa is situated in Sa Punta, Platja de Pals. The Costa Brava is one of Spain's best-kept secrets. This rugged coastline extends northeast of Barcelona to the French border. The coast here is scenic and rugged, with sandy coves, cliffs, and mountain-top lookouts. Picturesque towns and villages such as Pals, Llafranc, Cadaques, Calella de Palafrugell and Port Lligat can be found all along the Costa Brava, as well as the Greek and Roman ruins of Empuries.
The best parts of the Costa Brava are still truly beautiful, with the northerly stretch dotted with perfect small beaches in rocky coves surrounded by pine clad hills. Strictly speaking the Costa Brava runs out at Blanes, a few miles north of Barcelona but, as do most people, we include Barcelona.
Because of the rugged coast, the region hasn't seen anywhere near the mass of new developments that have sprung up in the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol and being only an hour or so from the resorts in the South of France, the Costa Brava is a lot closer to the rest of mainland Europe.
The Catalan cuisine is, no doubt, one of the most outstanding in Spain. The cuisine is based on a mixture of the land and the sea, of the sweet and the salty.
The Costa Brava boasts excellent sporting facilities including cycling, hand-gliding, parachuting, horse riding, hiking and golf. There are also watersports available at the numerous yacht clubs and marinas. Windsurfing, water skiing, sailing and diving to name but a few. An abundance of museums can be found throughout the Costa Brava, perhaps the most famous being the Salvador Dali museum in Figueres, which attracts hundreds of visitors daily, his home in nearby Cadaques is also well worth a visit.

GOLF ON THE COSTA BRAVA
Golfers have discovered on the Costa Brava, a destination with many golf courses open all year round, with a Mediterranean climate and very mild temperatures which helps the courses remain in perfect condition. Quality, variety and the spectacular are featured in courses. The course styles are varied including links, parkland layouts which are often lined with impressive pines, cork and oak trees, whilst others include water hazards and large undulating greens. The environment has provided this area with a privileged landscape, where golf courses have been perfectly adapted and carefully respected the environment around them.
Driving ranges have been perfectly prepared for those who want to take up with this wonderful game. Several driving ranges have more than 100 practice bays, as well as pitching and putting greens.... and most of them are pleased to welcome groups bringing their own teaching pro to make the most of the winter season on the Costa Brava. Maybe, this is another reason why the European PGA has decided to establish their first PGA course in Spain close to Girona, in the heart of the Costa Brava. The PGA Golf de Catalunya is unquestionably the "jewel in the crown". In addition to this, other courses such as Pals, Emporda and Peralada have hosted the PGA Pre-Qualifying School II, in the last 6 years.

“Ideal property for family holiday in beautiful part of Spain”
Spacious, very well-equipped apartment in beautiful location. Lovely terrace with access to good-sized pool. Wonderful views of pine clad hills and Pyrenees in the distance. Lots of superb beaches nearby and great local culture. A holiday home with everything you could possibly need.
“Great location, lovely villa.”
Our family of four (children aged 9 and 4) had a great week in this villa. It was modern, spacious and clean. The kitchen was modern and very well equipped down to the ice making fridge. The pool was quite dirty when we arrived but this was rectified after a couple of days. The location was brilliant, with great beaches close by on foot. The villa is built on the side of a hill so be prepared for lots of stairs! The view from the balcony was stunning, however the balcony was not entirly enclosed and we had to watch our 4 yr old quite closely outside. We very much appreciated the detailed information left by the owner which included directions to the beaches, areas to visit and restaurant reviews. Also appreciated was the large collection of dvd's and books. The sky TV was a big plus!
“Sun, sea, peace and a pool - a perfect week”
Since we stayed in this lovely well-equipped villa last year there have been some improvements and our stay this year was even better. It helped that the weather was great, but repairs and improvements in the grounds were noticeable, particularly the steps from the garden down to the road below, making it safer for less able people to negotiate. The quality of furnishings and equipment in the villa is very high, and there was excellent pressure in the showers. All in all we were very comfortable. As with last year, we enjoyed having the choice of which local beach to visit, just a short stroll down the hill - the nicest was actually the nudist beach! We had one scare - a couple of large jellyfish drifted close to the beach and caused mild panic. The nearest minimarket where we got bread from the bakery last year has been bought up by a chain and completely transformed into a good little supermarket. It still retains the bakery that makes the wonderful pumpkin seed baguettes. They have even repaired some of the heaves and potholes in the local roads - including a huge one we had a nasty accident with last year! And we found some hidden gems off the beaten track such as a small restaurant by a sacred fountain.
“You will not be disappointed with your stay if you book this house”
Our stay at this house was perfect and we would definitely stay there again. We didn't have any trouble finding it and were all very impressed when we got there. We are a family with three teenagers and a younger child and the place and accommodation was great for all of us. It was really clean and fresh with beautiful views in a peaceful area. The beach really is a close walk even though it seemed as if it would be further away when we drove up to it. The kitchen is so well equipped and has everything you could need. The pool was great and was really warm even though it isn't heated. We would definitely stay here again.
“Well equipped house in good condition ideal for a family stay.”
We enjoyed staying here for a week with our children aged 5 and 2. The house was spacious enough to stay inside during the hot hours of the day without getting cabin fever (children!) and the pool was a good size with lots of room to run about on the grass too. The kitchen was well equipped for keen chefs, and this made family dining very easy....with fresh herbs growing on the balcony too. Rooms were a big enough , and having 2 bathrooms was a bonus. We did need to drive to the beaches as it was too far and hilly to walk even with a stroller, though the other villages we discovered in the area made driving well worth it.
Owner's reply: Thank you for your review, we will take on board your comments about providing bath mats and tea towels, and improving the Bedding for next year.
“Great location and property”
Well equipped and very clean. Lovely Kitchen, living area and bathrooms. Easy access to shops, beach and a lovely pool. Very peaceful
“Excellent location, nice property, good value.”
The property was well located close to the beach and amenities (although it was a steep uphill walk). We found the property to be very good value, and had all the amenities we expected which were all in very good working order. The property itself was very clean and spacious. Also lots of interesting little villages close by to visit on day trips.
