Our retreat in the sun in Mallorca is situated just 25 minutes from Palma airport and 10 minutes from the central Palma which boasts an abundance of shopping areas, markets, restaurants with cooking styles from all over the world, night clubs & bars as well as of course the magnificent Sa Seu - Palma Majorca's principal Cathedral.
Our apartment is In a well maintained building which has a nice approach, an imposing entrance & a full time caretaker/porter. There is a large well maintained swimming pool on our extensive sun terrace which leads to our private rocky beach with its own little island. The building community organises a local operator to run a cafe/restaurant by the pool during the summer months.
Our apartment is off the main hall at the opposite end from the street entrance yet it is the 6th floor directly above the sun terraces and pool and beach. Within a minute's walk of our apartment are local shops and facilities: supermarket, fresh bread shop, banks, pharmacy, health centre and car hire as well as bars and an abundance of restaurants offering a spectrum of world cuisine including Italian, Chinese Japanese, Indian, Scandinavian, and of course local Majorcan and Spanish.
We have recently been able to add UK satellite TV and very high speed WiFi internet services in the apartment.
All in all our apartment is a delightful place to spend a holiday with so many delightful activities in Majorca - all you will want is more time to enjoy it!!

The two side double bedrooms have good sea views while spacious living room with good sized dining area that easily accommodate 6 or more diners, as well as the main generous double bedroom all open onto our 20 metre long south facing balcony. These rooms and the balcony all offer panoramic views of the sea and bay of Palma including Marivent - the Kings summer Palace in Mallorca, the lovely Puerto de Calanova and Illetas.
The rooms are all well fitted out with new modern furniture and furnishings, good quality linens and towels and ample storage cupboards in each room and there is full air-conditioning which serves as heating in the winter serving all the rooms except the smallest bedroom.
The sitting room has two sofas and two easy chairs a large flat screen TV with Freesat satellite services giving the main English programs as well as the local ones. The dining area has a table with 6 chairs. On the balcony are a table and chairs at each end, the larger one seats 6 and the smaller 4 as well as some loungers.
There are two modern well finished bathrooms fully tiled and with marble tops, the larger one has a full sized bath with a good shower in it with sliding shower screen while the smaller has a good corner shower stall with sliding doors.
The large fitted kitchen is also fully tiled and has a full sized eye level oven as well as a microwave oven, 4 ring hob, kettle toast coffee maker fridge and plenty of pots, pans, cutlery and crockery you will need for up to 6 guests and has an integrated washing machine and there is a dryer that can be used on the balcony.

The balcony goes the whole width (about 20m) of the apartment and the dining room sitting room and main bedroom all open on to it.
Although we do not encourage smokers we do allow careful smoking on the balcony provided care is take to prevent the smell entering the apartment and it furnishings and to avid burn damage.
The Balearic Islands region
Majorca makes a wonderful holiday setting because there is so much variety of terrain and landscape and so much to do. Also the weather is typically Mediterranean cool but not cold winters, warm spring and autumns, and hot dry summers. There are rarely strong winds but usually gentle breezes throughout the year. Add to that how easy it is to get too and altogether Mallorca is probably the best island in the worldi - better than the Caribbean or Indian or Pacific ocean islands.
Although our private beach is rocky there are sandy beaches at Cala Mayor about 500 metres and Illetas Playa about 2.5 Km away. The Spanish National sailing school in Majorca is based in the nearby Puerto de Calanova which is 500 metres distant and there is a good bar and restaurant in the port.
Palma de Mallorca
Families enjoy days out at Aqualand - a great water park on the outskirts of Magaluf with Western Park and Western Water Park right beside it are about about 11 km, 15 minutes away. Also in Magaluf is Nemo's Submarine which provides a 20 minute boat ride and 50 minutes in the submarine going up to 20 metres deep showing fish feeding and an underwater panorama.
Marineland in Costa D’en Blanes is Mallorca's best marine life theme park where they breed many of their own animals features a dolphin and sea lions show and is about 5 km, 5 minutes distant.
Scuba diving and snorkelling for beginners or experts can be enjoyed at Hippocampes Diving Centre Illetas which is only 2.5 km, 5 minutes off and there is more diving at M.A.D. Divers – British Dive Centre which offers PADI scuba diving courses as well as dive trips every day from Palmanova, Magalluf and Santa Ponsa in the southwest of Majorca which are all 10-15 km about 15-20 minutes journey.
The Port of Andratx is nearly as far west as you can go in Mallorca yet only 26km 25 minutes away. Not only is it the Majorcan home of many celebrities such as Claudia Schiffer and Michael Douglas it also boasts a wonderfully picturesque fishing port and modern marina with great restaurants and bars and features Sa Taronja a multi-cultural centre in spacious grounds on the edge of Andratx with two galleries, a theatre, a dance hall, 12 artists studios, sound studio, gardens, a multipurpose events room, bar and restaurant well known for its innovative programming and a venue private & public events.
There are golf courses all over Majorca the nearest at Real Golf Bendinat about 2.5 km 5 minutes away the oldest established is at Son Vida Club de Golf 6.5km, 15 minutes journey and Pula Golf near Son Servera hosts an annual Mallorca classic part of the PGA, and is 77 km, 75 minutes away.
La Lonja next to the Sa Seu Cathedral is a great example of gothic architecture in Majorca and is used as a cultural and art exhibition venue. The Sineu Market established by King Jaime II in 1306 is held every Wednesday in the main square and is one of the oldest and most interesting Mallorca markets is 48km 35 minutes by motorway.

"Major Building Works Next to the Apartment Spoilt our Holiday"
Directly next to the apartment there is a large apartment block being built. The building noise started at 8am and continued until 7pm. We moved out after 3 days to rescue our holiday. We were not informed about the building work and obviously wouldn't have booked the apartment if we had been. The kept the owner updated and have requested that the 4 nights we didn't stay there to be refunded to us. The owner is very unsympathetic and offered us the chance to pay for another week and get one free!!
All the works are now finished so there is no longer any issue. The existing next door building was being converted from a Hotel to apartments. This did entail quite a lot of work mostly internal but some outside. With all due respect site workers in Spain do not work such long days. Other guests stayed immediately before and after the guests who complained and although they were aware work was being carried out none of them said it marred their holiday. They completed their holiday and both groups wrote to say they had enjoyed their holiday. This group who are complaining threatened to give a bad review if I did not refund their rental but I was not going to be held to ransom so they have been spiteful and inaccurate giving the low ratings on the other matters:- Ease of booking, Key pickup/access to the property, Quality of bedding/mattresses, Cleanliness of bathroom, Service, Directions to the property, Overall condition, Kitchen/utensils quality, Quality of facilities/amenities. I showed them the emails I had from the earlier and subsequent guests and said that although I found their complaint unfounded I would give them a free week if they booked in a subsequent year.
