The East Anglia region

Pakefield is a small village located on the coast of Suffolk, which is one of the six counties which make up the area of East Anglia. East Anglia has a diverse mixture of vibrant cities, individual towns and villages, beautiful countryside and idyllic seaside. The region has preserved much of its unspoilt character, rural landscape, architecture and traditions.

Suffolk is characterized by its large skies and small villages of pastel coloured houses nestling amongst large swathes of agricultural, forest and heathland. The area is amongst the driest in the UK.

The majority of the coast south of Pakefield is undeveloped and forms the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Pakefield is at the northern end of the Suffolk Coast Path.

Suffolk

Pakefield is a small, peaceful village, just south of the larger town of Lowestoft, with its golden sandy beaches. The two places are joined by a sea front esplanade, lined with beach huts, which makes for a pleasant stroll. The beach towards Kessingland has a very different atmosphere, as no houses line the wild cliffs.

When one is not on the beach, the area has plenty of other things on offer for all ages. Taking a trip to Norwich by train is an experience in itself as the train route takes you through idyllic unspoilt countryside. There are picturesque villages and towns to explore. Nearby 'Africa Alive' wildlife park (3 miles) and 'Pleasurewood Hills' theme park (5 miles) are two of Suffolk's top rated attractions. Crabbing is a popular pastime at the harbour mouth of the picturesque villages of Walberswick and Southwold. During the summer holidays, Southwold also has a 'maize maze' with play area, which makes for a great outing. Dunwich Heath (National Trust) is a good place for walking, with trails for children and even free geocaching on offer. Slightly further afield, there is Fritton Lake Adventure park, which offers land and water based adventurous and sporting activities, Bewilderwood and Pettits Animal Adventure Park, Somerleyton Hall, and the Oasis Camel Centre. To entertain the children at times of wet weather, there are two indoor play centres locally, and a roller skating centre on the pier. Oulton Broad offers excellent facilities for boat trips on the Norfolk Broads (2 miles).

For bird watchers, there are many interesting places, such as Westleton Heath, Walberswick, Sizewell Belts, Walberswick Minsmere, Dunwhich Heath, Blyth Estuary, Benacre Broad. Because of the variety of landscapes (shingle beaches, inter-tidal mud flats, grazing and coastal marshes, heathland and woodland) one can expect a huge variety of different birds with over three hundred species in the area's checklist, amongst which are the avocet, bearded tit, bittern, and marsh harriers.

“Perfect house in a perfect location”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2015

This is the best holiday home we have stayed in; perfect for young children. The owners have thought of everything. It's also in a fabulous location: beach in view, pubs within staggering distance, shop and chippy really close by. Will definitely be booking again.

“Well stocked and in a perfect, picturesque seafront location”

Reviewed 18 Oct 2014

We enjoyed our stay in Sea View House. It is in such a lovely spot and we especially liked the sea views from our bedroom. We were very impressed with how well the house was stocked with children's toys as well as everything else we could have wanted. Also being so close to the beach was ideal. We loved the walks along the sea front and the surrounding area.

“A brilliant seaside holiday house!”

Reviewed 17 Jul 2014

We stayed at Sea View House in June 2014. It was an excellent choice - attractively furnished, extremely well-equipped and very spacious, which, with the big garden at the rear is ideal for a family, although there were only two of us and we just enjoyed relaxing there. There is a lovely, big, modern kitchen with everything one could need and a good dining area. There are games and lots of books for children and some interesting local information books. The sea and shore are just a few metres away without having to cross any roads - perfect! We would definitely return.
