Having the footpath in front of the house means it's safe for children and cars don't block the view. The sand and pebble beach in front is only a few steps away. Pakefield is a quiet village just south of Lowestoft, a traditional sea side resort, with wide, sandy award winning beaches. These are within easy walking distance along the sea promenade lined with colourful beach huts. Lowestoft is also the home of the Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park.

Shops 200 yards, pubs 100 yards. Parking at the rear of the house in a quiet cul-de-sac (off-road).

Although we are relatively new to this website, the house has been let as a holiday cottage for the last 15 years and many guests return year after year. Please note that, as part of our annual programme of improvements, in 2015 we have replaced the mattresses and replaced the fridge-freezer with a new, larger one and installed a new washer-dryer. We have also updated the bathroom suite and installed an electric shower over the bath and introduced free WIFI.

Downstairs:
Porch and hallway lead to:
Lounge: One 3-seater settee, 3 armchairs, small flat-screen TV with DVD player and Freeview, parquet flooring and coal effect gas fire, shelves with local books
Back room: - well equipped kitchen with medium sized fridge-freezer, microwave, electric oven and hob, washing/ drying machine, lino flooring
- dining area with round dining table & chairs, dresser with games
Sliding porch door leads from back room to enclosed back garden, mostly paved and with garden furniture. The front garden is a great place to sit and enjoy the view and any sun shine!

Bathroom with toilet, sink and bath at the top of the stairs. There is an electric shower over the bath.
Twin bedroom (back of the house) with two adult single pine beds, wardrobe and chest of drawers, bedside lamps

Location description from owner

The East Anglia region

Pakefield is a small village located on the coast of Suffolk, which is one of the six counties which make up the area of East Anglia. East Anglia has a diverse mixture of vibrant cities, individual towns and villages, beautiful countryside and idyllic seaside. The region has preserved much of its unspoilt character, rural landscape, architecture and traditions.

Suffolk is characterized by its large skies and small villages of pastel coloured houses nestling amongst large swathes of agricultural, forest and heathland. The area is amongst the driest in the UK.

The majority of the coast south of Pakefield is undeveloped and forms the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Pakefield is at the northern end of the Suffolk Coast Path.

Pakefield

Pakefield is a small, peaceful village, just south of the larger town of Lowestoft, with its wide, sandy, award winning beaches. They are joined by a sea front esplanade, lined with beach huts, which makes for a pleasant stroll. The sea front also has plenty of places to enjoy an ice cream, or sit down for some fish and chips or a cup of tea. There is a putting green, adventure golf course, and the pier has an indoor roller-skating venue. The beach towards Kessingland has a very different atmosphere, as no houses line the wild cliffs.

When one is not on the beach, the area has plenty of other things on offer for all ages. Taking a trip to Norwich by train is an experience in itself as the train route takes you through idyllic unspoilt countryside. There are picturesque villages and towns to explore. Nearby 'Africa Alive' wildlife park (3 miles) and 'Pleasurewood Hills' theme park (5 miles) are two of Suffolk's top rated attractions. Crabbing is a popular pastime at the harbour mouth of the pretty historic villages of Walberswick and Southwold. During the summer holidays, Southwold also has a 'maize maze' with play area, which makes for a great outing. Dunwich Heath (National Trust) is a good place for walking, with trails for children and even free geocaching on offer. Slightly further afield, there is Fritton Lake Adventure park, which offers land and water based adventurous and sporting activities, Bewilderwood and Pettits Animal Adventure Park, Somerleyton Hall, and the Oasis Camel Centre. To entertain the children at times of wet weather, there are two indoor play centres locally, and the roller skating centre on the pier. Oulton Broad offers excellent facilities for boat trips on the Norfolk Broads (2 miles).

For bird watchers, there are many interesting places, such as Westleton Heath, Walberswick, Sizewell Belts, Walberswick Minsmere, Dunwhich Heath, Blyth Estuary, Benacre Broad. Because of the variety of landscapes (shingle beaches, inter-tidal mud flats, grazing and coastal marshes, heathland and woodland) one can expect a huge variety of different birds with over three hundred species in the area's checklist, amongst which are the avocet, bearded tit, bittern, and marsh harriers.

“Good location, good price, reasonable accomodation”

Reviewed 29 Jun 2014

Wonderful sea views. The house had just about everything we needed with plenty of room. Décor in need of a little sprucing up. The beds were not very comfortable, but this was mentioned to the owner who said she would change the mattresses. Overall, an enjoyable stay.
