Location description from owner

The English Riviera region

South Devon is a popular holiday destination, boasting some of the highest temperatures during the summer months in England. Paignton is part of an area encompassing Torquay and Brixham - a beautiful unspoilt fishing harbour town, commonly known as the English Rivera. Oldway Mansion in the heart of Paignton was once the home of the Singer family, founders of the famous Sewing Machine. Agatha Christie was born and bred in Torquay, The Princess Theatre on the sea front often shows productions written by this legend.Three miles from Poachers is the lovely town of Totnes which has a fabulous market every Friday in the heart of the town - plenty of local produce, a lot of organic, very original foods and some marvellous interesting artefacts! During the summer months, Elizabethan dress is almost compulsory with the locals going about their everyday business on a Tuesday. The town is definitely worth a visit - plenty of great eating places and some great Tea rooms with irresistible home made cakes! The English Riviera boasts 22 miles of coastal paths and countless sandy beaches, the nearest is Goodrington Sands but Blackpool Sands is definitely worth a visit - you may have to pay to park in the car park but once it's full no one else is allowed onto this golden beach, therefore never crowded and just fabulous really clean facilities.During the months of June, July and August there are countless fetes, fairs, festivals, carnivals - literally something happening every week.

Paignton

Poachers is probably in one of the best locations for exploring South Devon. Few places in the world can genuinely offer you such a wide range of ways to spend your time. Relaxing on the beach, afternoons browsing through designer shops or visiting fascinating museums. If you have the energy, there is a vast selection of sporting activities to choose from, both on the water and off the water, plus hundreds of place to visit within easy reach and a diary packed with events and festivals. For those looking to spread their wings there are historic towns, expansive moors, picture-postcard villages and heritage-rich cities close by, just waiting to be discovered.Just a few places to visit:DartmoorPaignton ZooQuaywest Water ParkTorbay Golf CentreJunior Quad Bike CentreModel VillageKent's CavernTorquay MuseumTorre AbbeyCompton CastelSteam RailwayPrincess TheatrePaignton HarbourSharpham VineyardDartmoor Otter Sanctuary & Buckfast ButterfliesHedgehog HospitalBuckfast AbbeyEven the supermarket is only 1.5 miles away!

“Great holiday cottage with good fishing , fantastic location and dog friendly too.”

Reviewed 4 Oct 2015

Very comfortable well equipped cottage with stunning views, beautifully furnished and providing a great base for touring the English Riviera. Excellent fishing too! Had a very relaxing break with our two dogs who enjoyed the great walks - we would recommend Newbarn Farm to anyone. Welcoming extra touches, fresh flowers and cream tea - the icing on the cake!

“Well- equipped, comfy cottage with fantastic views.”

Reviewed 29 Jun 2015

Chose this cottage for the location - few miles from South Devon coast and Dartmoor, but in a quiet rural setting. The cottage was small yet comfortable and well equipped. There were a few other cottages in close proximity, but only 3 others occupied. The cottages is part of the owners farmhouse, but we saw very little of them, although I think they would have been there to help if needed. Views from the cottage were fantastic on three sides. There were scones and clotted cream ready for us on arrival and also milk, tea and eggs from the farm. We were allowed to take our dog , although not all the cottages allowed dogs. She loved having the fields to sniff around in. We saw lots of buzzards, rabbits, pheasant and a heron from our bedroom window. The farm has fishing lakes. Free view tv, radio and wifi ( a bit slow - wouldn't like to try to download a film!). Playarea and toys for kids and BBQ area. Some DVDs and games in communal area. All in all , a great holiday and would recommend.
