The English Riviera region
From the moors to the seaside towns and country villages Devon can provide an all-round holiday experience.
The county has given its name to a number of culinary specialities. The Devonshire cream tea, involving scones, jam and clotted cream.
In October 2008, Devon was awarded Fairtrade County status by the Fairtrade Foundation.
The county town is the cathedral city of Exeter. In addition to Devon County Council, the county contains two unitary authorities: the port city of Plymouth and Torbay, a conurbation of seaside resorts
Devon generally has a mild climate, heavily influenced by the North Atlantic Drift. In winter snow is relatively uncommon away from high land.. The county has warm summers with occasional hot spells and cool rainy periods.
The Torbay conurbation of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham on the south coast is now administratively independent of the county. Rural market towns in the county include Barnstaple, Bideford, Honiton, Newton Abbot, Okehampton, Tavistock, Totnes and Tiverton.
Torquay and Paignton has much to offer for all the family and all ages including theatres, sport centres, golf, fishing, the Pier, and so much more.
For beach lovers there are 4 long stretches of sandy beach at Preston Sands, Paignton Beach, Goodrington Beach and Broadsands Beach, each offering safe bathing with care and many on-site facilities.
The area offers great walks with spectacular sea views, especially around the picturesque harbours, cliff paths and along the famous Strand.

"Very spacious cottage with beautiful cosy and romantic garden"
We took our 12 month old grand-daughter, the lounge was a brilliant size for a walking baby and 6 adults . We took a stair gate with us so baby couldn't step down into the kitchen. The downstairs bathroom was brilliant for the baby to 'swim' in at bedtime and the wetroom was brilliant for the parent and baby shower in the morning. We ate in the conservatory each evening which was lovely. The bedrooms are all of a very good size. We would book this property again. If the new bedroom blinds every get replaced then maybe consider 'blackout' blinds. But that is only because the bedroom wasn't really dark enough for the baby to fall to sleep in. thank you for the loan of the travel cot.
