Location description from owner

The England region

Padstow is both a beautiful Cornish Town with a picturesque harbour and stunning views down the Camel estuary but also has numerous designer shops, art gallerys and excellent restaurants including the famous Rick Stein seafood restaurant and his superb fish and chip shop on the quay. So you may both relax over a harbourside coffee and watch the trawlers and yachts entering and leaving the harbour or browse the shops for designer bargains. There are, of course, a number of excellent pubs in the town and trying the Cornish Rattler (it bites!) cider is de rigeur.

There are speedboat trips around the bay, mackerel and deep sea fishing trips available and the Jubilee Queen makes a one hour trip up the estuary and around the inshore islands every day. The Cornish Coast Path runs through the town and you can (if you wish) walk for 500 miles around Cornwall or just stroll up to the War Memorial for a stunning view down the estuary.

The Camel Trail runs for 13 miles along the side of the estuary and bicycles can be hired including tandems and a variety of addons to accomodate small children. Wadebridge (the local town) is some five miles from Padstow. The estuary is famous for its bird life and there is a hide along the Camel Trail. There is a ferry service across the estuary to Rock where sailing and water sports of all kinds are available. For wet weather the town has the National Lobster Hatchery where you can observe lobsters from tiny fry to the huge Goliath. There is an outdoor swimming pool at the Metropole Hotel. Wadebridge has a cinema and a picturesque cricket ground.

Padstow

Padstow is on the estuary of the river Camel. The local town of Wadebridge is some five miles inland. The towns of Rock and Polzeath are across the one mile wide estuary. Padstow has several beautiful beaches of its own and Rock and Polzeath boast several more. Within four miles of Padstow are six of the best beaches in Cornwall from the huge storm beach at Constantine Bay (which like many of the beaches is dog friendly) to the enclosed next door cove of Treyarnon. The Cornish Coast path runs through these beaches and across the intervening cliffs making for stunning (and windy) walking. Trevose beach has a shop and cafe and wetsuits (often needed) and surfboards can be hired and watersports lessons booked. There is a golf course at the Trevone Country Club.

A little further afield is the famous Bedruthen Steps which appear on numerous posters and books about Cornwall. Newquay, some thirteen miles away, is a large resort and has swimming pools, cinemas and a wide range of attractions. The town of Tintagel is some ten miles away and has the rugged Tintagel Castle widely believed to be the site of King Arthur's Camelot. Bodmin Moor is within twelve miles and is a wilderness where you can walk for miles and meet no-one.

Wadebridge, the nearest town, has a cinema, several restuarants, gallerys and bookshops as well as traditional butchers and fishmongers.
