The Coach House is a stunning holiday cottage located in a secluded spot just outside the fabulous fishing port of Padstow in Cornwall. It is an ideal place to spend a family holiday with 7 different beaches all within 15 minutes of the house. There is a host of activities for children of all ages. For those seeking fine dining we are a short distance from Rick Steins seafood restaurant and Jamie Olivers 15

The property itself is one of a small number of barn conversions on what used to be Trevibban Barton farm. The property is very private standing in its own secluded large safe garden. Backing onto open field where deer frequently roam up to the garden fence. the house is ideal if you want a retreat away from the hustle and bustle but within easy reach of Padstow. There is parking for 2 cars.

The house is equipped with everything you need to get away from it all. We bought the Coach House in 2004 for Family holidays and so was bought with our young children in mind. An

An ideal spot to get to everything you need but sufficiently private so the children can be out in the garden without the need to worry. Perfect spot for a family holiday.

Location description from owner

The England region

There is lots to do when staying at our Cornwall holiday cottage and we have listed a few things here . We have also given a time estimate for travel but please bear in mind that these can be variable due to traffic conditions. Most of the places listed will also have some activities for children throughout the summer as this usually dictates where we visit to keep our 3 entertained!

Its worth visiting the National Trust website for details of Gardens and Grand homes that are open to the public. Below are few of our national trust favorites and full detail can be found on the website

Glendurgan 1 hour

Lanhydrock 30 mins

St Michaels Mount 1 hour

Boscastle 45 mins

Carnewas and Bedruthan steps 15 mins

Below are other none national trust activities that may be of interest

Trebah gardens 1 hour

Pencarrow House and gardens 30 mins

Lost gardens of Heligan 1 hour

Royal Cornwall Museum at Truro 30 mins

National Maritime museum Falmouth 1 hour

The Tate art gallery st ives 1 hour (there are lots of small galleries in st ives also)

The Minnack theatre. A very famous cliff top theatre. Booking essential 1 hour 30 mins

The Eden project World famous bio domes Everyone should visit here at least once 25 minutes

Tintagel castle - legendary home of King Arthur 1 hour (link with a visit to Port Isaac where "Doc Martin" is filmed)

Padstow

Padstow is 7/8 minutes away nestling on the beautiful Camel estuary. The town with its colourful harbour surrounded by medieval pastel washed houses is an attraction within itself. Watching the eveveryday ebband flow of the harbour is a perfect way to pass a few hours. On a warm summers evening is there any better way to spend it than watching one of the many local brass bands play on the harbour.

There are no less than 7 beaches within 15 minutes of our Cornwall holiday cottage. Our particular favourite is Constantine beach as its great for kids of all ages.Fantastic rock pools for crabbing, great beach for playing and fantasic waves for body boarding or surfing.Or just for chilling! Also look out for the treasure hunts organised by the National Trust on the beach at nearby Bedruthan steps.

For those who are feeling active a speedboat ride from the harbour, fishing trips on the Jubilee, learning to surf are just some of the things on offer. If you prefer your activities on dry land then why not hire bikesand cycle the traffic free Camel trail.Bikes can be hired in Padstow or Wadebridge from Padstow cycle hire. Its is possible to cycle along the camel trail following the estuary 5 miles as far as wadebridge.A decent half day trip with lunch in wadebridge

If time allows 18 holes on the championship course at Trevose is only 10 minutes away

There are a plethora of restaurants in and around Padstow and below I have listed a few that we have tried and are happy to recommend. There are of course literally hundres of other places to eat.

The Seafood restaurant. Probaly the most famous fish restaurant in the UK and worthy of its reputation. Ideal for a special treat.

Jamie Olivers 15 This is in a fabulous location overlooking the beach at Watergate bay. A unique concept in that 15 relates to the number of “troubled” youngsters who Jamie Oliver took under his wing to turn into Chefs. 15 mins from cottage

No 6 This is our favourite in the centre of Padstow. Again probably for a special treat.

Margots Very popular bistro in centre of Padstow.Booking essential

Rojanos Nice Italian place owned by the same people as No 6. Centre of Padstow

Pescadou A decent fish restaurant in centre of padstow overlooking the Harbour

Trevose golf club Ok restaurant with great views overlooking the golf course down to the atlantic.

The Cornish arms st merryn.. Rick Steinsgastro pub in St Merryn You can't book in advance and always popular but worth the wait.

“In need of maintenance”

Struggled to get hot water for 5 days. leak from 1 en suite into living room.smell of diesel on landing and bedroom.sceptic tank very smellie in bedroom and outside.would not return

Owner's reply: First of all please accept my apologies for the inconveniences that you suffered whilst staying at the Coach House. Whilst in no way trying to diminish the problems that you had I feel its important to put the issues in context to allow any future guests to make an educated decision as to whether the property is suitable for them. In respect of struggling to get hot water I can advise that we have had a few problems with our boiler over the last month. We have had the appropriate engineer out to look at the boiler and replace parts to ensure its working properly. We stayed at the property ourselves for the week before your arrival to "road test" the boiler and everything was working fine. We left the day you arrived and all was working well. Our caretaker also came in that day to prepare the property for you and again all was well. Unfortunately when you arrived you had problems getting hot water. You telephoned Joe. ,my caretaker, and he talked you through the simple procedure for re booting the boiler to get the hot water going. As we had had previous problems instructions had also been left in the manual at the house. I am guessing this got the system working as we heard no further from you until you sent a text to Joe 2 days later advising that the same thing was happening again. Joe contacted me and I advised him to get the heating engineer out straight away. Joe spoke to you and obtained your permission to pass on your mobile so this could be arranged. We heard no further from you on this or any other points for the rest of your holiday and presumed that the issue was sorted. In your text to Joe you also mentioned that water had dripped through the ceiling from the main en suite. Each of our bathrooms is en suite. The main bedroom en suite has a bath with shower attachment taps and the other 2 have enclosed shower cubicles. The main bedroom shower attachment is suitable for rinsing hair etc when having a bath and not for full showers hence no shower curtain If guests require a full shower then we have 2 shower cubicles in the other bedrooms. Over the years we have had a handful of guests who have tried to have a full shower in the main bathroom resulting in water inevitably spraying all over the bathroom floor and then subsequently dripping down through the floor onto the ceiling below. We have tested the pipework for leaks and there are none. The drips are simply a result of using the bath for a full shower rather than the other 2 shower cubicles. We have amended our instruction manuals to advise future guests of this. We have owned this property for the last 14 years and have never had a single problem of any description with the sceptic tank. It has always functioned properly and we have never had any unpleasant odours either when we have been staying ourselves or reported by any other guests. As you did not report this problem to us I cannot comment fully as to when or how it occurred but can only say what happened post your departure. Our Caretaker followed you in at about 1pm and also reported unpleasant odours coming from the drains. The septic tank which is not on our property and serves 9 other properties as well is maintained by a separate management company. I asked the caretaker to investigate by visiting the other properties that are served by the tank and also the tank itself. There was nothing amiss at the tank or at the other properties but the odour seemed localised to our downstairs ensuite and outside where the drain to that ensuite comes into the property. I immediately contacted the chairman of the management company that oversees the septic tank and he attended the property both inside and out at approximately 4pm. By the time he attended there were no unpleasant odours either inside or outside the property. Nevertheless he carried out a full inspection of the drainage system and tank, which incidentally was emptied the previous week, and found that everything was functioning as it should. As I stated earlier it is not possible with any certainty to state what caused the issue as it wasn't reported to us immediately but the Management company are of the opinion that it was caused by putting inappropriate material, natural waste and toile tissue only, down the toilet causing a temporary blockage that had been subsequently shifted when our caretakers carried out multiple flushings of toilets.. Likewise the smell of diesel you comment on was never reported to us and was not there when we left or reported by our caretakers on either of their subsequent visits. I have however asked the heating engineer to check this out. As I said at the outset this response in no way seeks to diminish the issues you had but the unfortunate title of your review gives the impression that this is a neglected and uncared for property which is not the case. If and when we are aware of any issues we use our best endeavours to address them immediately. Best wishes
