Location description from owner
The Haute-Normandie region
The Normandy region is an exciting area to discover. It has a wealth of history dating back to the middle ages with castles to explore such Chateau Gaillard overlooking Les Andelys built by Richard the Lionheart; Chateau Gisor a good example of a mot and bailey castle - but just as interesting is the market at Gisor on a Monday. Markets are fascinating to explore and a chance to sample some of the local produce such as camembert, cider, honey and savoury dishes. There are also stately homes to tour round. But if history is not your thing then there are lots of opportunities for outdoor sports and activities. The local tourist offices in Pacy sur Eure and in Vernon provide lots of information on things to do. One of the main attractions of this region is Giverny, the home of Claude Monet. Here one can visit the tranquil gardens ablaze with all different colours of flowers; tour the house and of course walk round the lilly pond where he painted his most famous pictures. Situated on the borders of Ile de France means that Paris is within easy reach and it takes just over an hour to be driving round the Arc de Triomphe or passing by the Eiffel Tower. If you fancy a day at the beach then drive in the opposite direction towards Deauville. Venturing further along the coast one can visit Bayeux and the famous tapestry or discover more about the Normandy Landings. Visit Rouen for a shopping experience along cobbled streets and discover more about Joan of Arc. However if you just want to relax then you can enjoy walking or cycling in the extensive grounds of Chateau de Vaux; take a book and sit by the lake or the river or during the summer relax in or by the pool.
The village of Vaux sur Eure is a twenty minute drive from Vernon, a bustling market town on the Normandy border. Here one can find a variety of good restaurants, visit the historic church and local museum amongst other attractions. Vernon is only a short distance away from Giverny famous for the home of the artist Claude Monet. It is here that Monet painted his picture of the water lillies and one can explore the beautiful garden and view the lake complete with ornamental bridge. “Great place to stay in a beautiful Chateaux relatively close to Paris”
We stayed for one week in the beautiful Chateaux during high season and we had a great stay. The apartment is well maintained and spacious and even though it only has two bedrooms, one bedroom has an L shape with two sleeping areas separated by a curtain. You by he way do have to access the master bedroom through the second bedroom. The wooden floor makes some noise but that do you expect in such a building. The apartment is really well equipped, includes a washing machine and there are several leaflets and travel guides available so you know where to go in the area. The surroundings are beautiful (the Chateaux is located in a large gated park area) and the kids really enjoyed the large pool (which is better than the pictures show) and the tennis courts. Versailles is easy to reach by car. We went to Paris by train, it only takes 40 minutes from Vernon (which is a 15 minutes drive). The owners were really friendly, they found out that we left a charger and offered themselves to send it to back us. We can definitely recommend Chateaux the Vaux.
“Superd location, excellent apartment and grounds”
This is an excellent location for a holiday. The apartment is well equipped, The pool and tennis courts were in use daily. The owners are very helpful and leave extended information for the apartment and trips out. Wonderful holiday all round.
“Wonderful accommodation in a beautiful setting.”
I Recently stayed at Chateau Vaux with my husband and three children. We were delighted with our apartment, which was clean and comfy with good facilities. Best of all for children (ages 9, 12 and 14) were the tennis courts and swimming pool which they absolutely loved. They also enjoyed games of ping pong on occasional rainy days! We were out every day and completely spoiled for choice for things to do and I'd definitely love to go back and explore more of Normandy. Chateau Vaux is only 25 mins in the car from the Giverny gardens and we had a fantastic day there. We also very much enjoyed visiting Vernon and Rouen and all they had to offer. My kids rated this as their favourite holiday ever and we would love to return soon.
“Lovely old Chateau in a great location”
We enjoyed the restful view from the Chateau. There are lots of places of interest within easy reach. Pacy sur Eure is the nearest town and has good shops. Lunch time meals at the Cafe de la Paix are good value. Visits to Giverny for Monet’s house & garden are delightful. There are plenty of historic places of interest nearby. Chateaux at La Roche Guyon (Rommels HQ), Beaumesnil, Anêt, Le Neuberg, Vernon (Bizy), & the ruins of Chateau Galliard (built for Richard the Lionheart) at Les Anderlys.
“A delightful week in a beautiful place.”
We are a family of four and we stayed here for a week. The apartment is a suite of rooms in an old chateau and is spacious and comfortable with gorgeous views over the magnificent grounds. The swimming pool and tennis courts kept us occupied when we weren't visiting the many lovely towns that are within easy distance. The location is quiet and out of the way which suited us on this occasion. You will need a car to get to nearest towns for restaurants though. I recommend the creperie in Pacy-sur-Eure and don't forget to visit Vernon (about 25 minutes drive away) which is on the Seine and has a wider range of restaurants and cafes.
