Wheatley is well serviced village and has a butcher, bakery, coffee shop, pharmacy, antique shop, churches, Co-Operative & Costcutter food shops, hair salons, a General Practice, a complementary medicine centre, the Oxford School for English, a children's playground, and a Post Office with currency exchange facilities. In addition there is an Indian restaurant in walking distance - which also has takeaway facilities. There is also a Chinese takeaway and a fish & chip shop within walking distance. Wheatley has three pubs within walking distance - including at least one real ale pub and pub food is available. A large Asda supermarket - with the cheapest petrol in the area - is about a 5 minute drive away.

Wheatley, founded in the Anglo-Saxon era, lies 6 miles south-east of the centre of Oxford with easy access to/from the M40. There are two frequent bus services linking Wheatley and Oxford making it simple to visit Oxford's treasured colleges, museums (Pitt Rivers, Ashmolean, Natural History, History of Science), the many university parks, or the theatre (try the Creation Theatre Company). Buses are also available to some surrounding small villages - but these are less frequent. There are every 15 minutes bus links between London and Oxford and a regular service between Heathrow/Gatwick and Oxford - one of the stops is close to Wheatley - so it should be possible, to collect guests without cars, by prior arrangement. If you come by car Bicester village with its discounted fashion designer boutiques is a simple 20 minute drive from Wheatley and there are numerous ancient Cotswold villages to visit less than an hours drive away. Guests who have stayed in the Barn have also visited Stonehenge and Bath with ease as well as the beautiful Waterperry gardens.

We will consider discounts for bookings for 2 guests only - please make this request when making the booking.

“Beautiful, charming cottage full of character”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2015

A beautiful, clean, comfortable and roomy cottage, converted from an old stable, fully modern and convenient but full of historical character at the same time. Excellent value for money. The place has many cable channels and Wi-Fi, which worked most of the time but occasionally went out, especially in rainy weather. Our hosts were so nice and helpful, and when they heard our flight had been delayed and we wouldn't arrive on time, they went out and stocked the place with basic groceries (bread, butter, milk) so we could have a snack as soon as we arrived. Wheatley is a lovely village. The cottage is right next door to a great bakery, an off-license, and several takeaways, and a short walk away from two good English pubs and a small supermarket. The location offers easy bus transport to Oxford and London. If you have a car, the Thornhill Park & Ride offers direct and frequent service to London via the Oxford Tube, and this is the service we used, but you can get there from Wheatley via Oxford as well. It was nice to come home to quiet Wheatley after a day out in the bigger cities of Oxford and London. All-around excellent -- hated to leave!

“Lovely setting.”

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at The Barn in Oxford. Ian was very helpful in providing information about the local area as well as a beautiful garden (complete with friendly dog Damien) for the kids to play! The shops were a quick walk from the property and it was an easy drive into the university centre. We would love to stay again!

“Delightful cottage and town”

We loved staying in the old barn! The cottage was comfortable, quiet and historic, and the perfect size for our family of 4. Wheatley is a charming town, an easy commute into Oxford, and worth a visit itself. Nearby were groceries and restaurants, and the bus stop was just a block away. And above all, we enjoyed meeting Ian and his lovely family, who were so welcoming and wonderful during our stay. Highly recommended.

“Comfortable luxurious accomodation”

This converted old barn has two large bedrooms, one with a large double bed the other two single beds. Sheets, towels blankets etc all of highest qualityt Very well decorated and modern comfy furnishings and fittings. Good amount of light and plugs and ample cupboard space.Well heated and abundant hot water Upstairs bathroom with bath and another toilet downstairs, Downstairs a living room and kitchen with fridge and washing machine plus a dining room so completely self contained . The barn is situated one end of a large and well laid out garden, the owner's house being at the other end. There is space to sit out and have tea etc in the garden and a large apple tree gives shade in the centre. The property is situated in the middle of Wheatley a charming picturesque village and countrry walks are very nearby as is the proximity of transport to Oxford. There are shops nearby and a host of restaurants and pubs plus some beautiful older buildings and lanes in the village. The owners make every effort to make the stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible and are very approachable, friendly and knowlegeable about the surrounding areas. The combination of a scenic villlage, amenable hosts and a beautiful place to stay make this ideal for Oxford and exploaring the countryside around .

“Heartwarming, Cosy and it won't upset your bank either”

Overall, this place was fabulous, it was everything we needed & in such short notice too, it was like finding gold dust, we were certainly very lucky at how perfect & reasonable the price was. We stayed for one night, 'we' being 4 guy mates just escaping from life to catch up & have fun for a night in Oxford. As we knocked on the door to enter, we were rather skeptical at first, as we couldn't see anything like the pictures in sight, but we were at the right place. First off, the owners of the place were the nicest people we have probably met, it felt very welcoming & overall a great atmosphere. Ian & his wife were the best hosts we have probably ever had the chance of meeting during non-hotel oriented visits. The actual place used to be a stables & the owners did a very good job in revamping it into a place of living, there's a nice spacious living room, a fairly roomy kitchen, a spiral staircase up to a very spacious double bedroom & another bedroom with two single beds. There's enough kitchenware (just about) to cook a christmas dinner (quite literally ;)). There's cupboards & drawers to store your items, the shower was decent albeit the water came out a bit tired-like. There was also a spacious dining room on the ground floor & another toilet. The only problem we probably had (although it was a small problem) was that the wifi was a bit weak, we had problems connecting to it however we were only staying one night so it wasn't too bad. tl;dr - Great Place, amazing value for money, you will not find a cheaper place with the same quality! Ian, his wife & his family as well as his dog were all very friendly & welcoming, wifi was a bit dodgy :P.
