Location description from owner

The Turkish Aegean Coast region

The region is special because its location means that you can paraglide in Oludeniz one day, canoe down the Xanthos river to Patara the next, take a jeep safari into the mountains, visit the ancient ghost town ruins in the pine and almond forests of Kaya Koyu and still take an overnight trip to the classical ruins of Ephesus. The area is nice if you just want to relax on the beach or by the pool but to get the most out of your trip you can consider moving around a little bit!

The shores of this region are among the loveliest landscapes in Turkey. The magnificent coastline, lapped by the clear water of the Mediterranean Sea, abounds in vast and pristine beaches surrounded by olive groves, rocky crags and pinewoods.

Whether you prefer idyllic fishing harbours, popular holiday villages or the remains of ancient civilizations attesting to more than 5,000 years of history, culture and mythology, this region offers a holiday with something for nature lovers, sun worshippers, photographers, sports enthusiasts, sailors and archaeologists.

Ovacik

Ovacik

Ovacik is set between Fethiye, Hisaronu and Olu-Deniz.. In the mountains it is generally cooler than Fethiye or Calis. Ovacik is a peaceful area, with several shops, supermarkets, and many great bars and restaurants, generally more authentic style restaurants thn in the busier main resort of hisaronu. Ovacik has a proportionately large population of British residents, who thoroughly enjoy the peace and views, yet not being too far from Fethiye and Hisaronu with its supermarkets and year round entertainments.

Olu Deniz is a stunning sea lagoon situated in a valley surrounded by pine-covered mountains on three sides and facing the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The Beach is a mixture of pebbles and fine shingle/sand and ideal for families with young children due to its gently sloping beaches.

It is in a conservation area so you won't find high-rise Hotels and such, so it keeps its natural beauty. The Lagoon end of the beach is a National Park Area and costs a minimal fee (about 50p) to enter, and is probably the most photographed beach in Turkey.

Just to throw in a bit of history, it harboured the Roman galleys of Pompey, which were there to eject pirates from Gemiler.

There are numerous activities on the beach i.e. water skiing snorkelling, scuba diving, para sailing, banana boat, pedalos, canoes in fact something for everyone.

You will find there is a good number of bars and restaurants along the sea front of Olu Deniz and in the various roads leading from the beach. Here you can have anything your heart desires, from a Kebab to a gourmet meal. In the evening the bars offer a variety of different music and entertainment.

Olu Deniz has also become something of a Mecca for Paragliding, and enthusiasts come from all over the world to take part in the sport. Towards the end of the season, usually around October time there is a big Paragliding competition, which is worth seeing as there are numerous paragliders in the air at the one time. It is possible for anyone to take a Tandem flight with an experienced pilot from the top of BabaDag Mountain, landing on the beach at Olu Deniz, an experience not to be missed.

Hisaronu is a short bus ride from the villa and is a charming hill resort (it means 'Front of the Castle', and refers to a local ruin). In recent years the resort has become very popular with British visitors, and the shops, restaurants, and bars cater extensively for your needs. An ideal place for walkers, visit the nearby deserted village, 'ghost town' of Kayakoy, or the secluded bays and coves, reached by the winding forest paths.

Fethiye is the large market town, accessed by a 10 minute dolmus ride or local taxi from outside the villa. It has many large shops and banks and the pedestrianised back streets house an array of craft and gift shops and bazaar stalls, as well as some of the best fish restaurants in the world. Try a meal at Regceps in the fish market for an unforgettable experience. The Monday market is the largest in the area and shouldn't be missed.
