The East Anglia region

East Anglia is a lovely place to visit. There's so much to do; award winning beaches, the broads, parks and country houses to visit. Camps Heath is at the bottom of the Waveney Valley and as a result, can be very warm in the summer. There are fantastic walks along river banks and public footpaths, many picturesque coastal villages to visit such as Southwold, Dunwich and Walberswick.

Oulton Broad

The Barn at Dairy Farm is situated on the edge of Oulton Marsh, managed by Suffolk Wildlife Trust. The views from the barn over the nature reserve are simply breath taking, with the river Waveney and the broads only a short walk away.

Camps Heath is less than a five-minute drive from Oulton Broad. Here you will find shops, a post office, two parks, cafes, restaurants and pubs. If you like river life, there are river boat trips along the Broads and River Waveney, or you can watch speed boat racing on a Thu eve during the summer. For a bit of nightlife, you could enjoy a pint at one of numerous licensed bars and pubs, or a glass of wine at the local winebar. Please let us know if you need recommendations for the best places to eat and drink in the area.

Lowestoft is known for its award-winning beaches with golden sands stretching for miles - Gorleston Beach is also near by which is dog friendly. The local tourist board is situated on the seafront, and offers a wide range of information. Somerleyton Hall, Suffolk Wildlife Park and Pleasurewood Hills are also close by.

“We would book this barn again in a Heartbeat!”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2014

We stayed at this lovely and peaceful barn a few days over two different business trips to Lowestoft. The barn is often rented out at weekends, but weekdays the owner allows last minute bookings on a per-room basis - if it is free. It means that if anyone else books a room, you share the common areas, e.g. kitchen, lounges. But we found that wasn't a problem, as we had the barn to ourselves most of the time and also, there were so many discreet sitting areas throughout the barn, you really can find your own space. The kitchen was amazingly well equipped, and everywhere was clean and decorated to a high standard. The room had plenty of storage, and the bed was so comfortable! If we could have stayed longer, we would have indulged in the many shelves of books and DVDs, or had a go at the games in the hall cupboard! There is a picnic table just outside the kitchen doors where we sat for morning coffee, and upstairs french doors led to an outdoor deck with table and chairs overlooking a broad expanse of Norfolk broads (our favourite spot for an evening glass of wine at sunset). There were even binoculars on hand for viewing the wildlife. Yet just 5 minutes away were shops and Oulton Broad with some fab pubs by the water, and 10 minutes away was the beach. The owner, Jan, never intruded but was always available to answer our questions or provide information about the area. The barn is also convenient for trips to other Norfolk and Suffolk villages too. We never wanted to leave and completely recommend this barn!!
