“A fantastic place to see Ireland”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2015

Just a quick review and a thank you to Kathleen for a wonderful time in Ireland! Our little family had an incredible time in Oughterard. Kathleen has a gorgeous grey stone house on a beautifully landscaped property with incredible views of lush green fields, low stone walls complete with grazing horses. The house is light and airy, yet cosy and comfortable. Whether you are preparing food in the kitchen, lounging in the stone dining room or relaxing on the sheltered patio, you will find yourself transfixed on the magical view of the manicured yard and beyond. Oughterard itself is a small but surprisingly bustling town just minutes walking distance. The food from the 4 different restaurants we tried was delicious, and obviously locally sustained. There are 2 groceries and 2 butchers as well for your needs. A gas station and a bank rounds out your needs. For a larger town experience Galway is just a 20 minute drive away. The only thing that needs attention was the extremely weak or non-existent internet WiFi. All-in all we had a great time and will be back for sure!

“Great house, great location!”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2014

We stayed in this lovely stone house, set in beautiful gardens, for a week with our son and his partner and our 15 month old granddaughter. The house and garden were ideal for both our comfort and enjoyment and the safety of the wee one. Kathleen, the owner, is a friendly and helpful host whose home made bread was delicious. We were invited to pick anything we wanted from her vegetable garden and we did! Local shops, pubs and restaurants are a ten minute walk away in the village of Oughterard and you are right on the doorstep of the wonderful Connemara National Park to explore by car. Lough Corrib and the Owenriff River are also within easy walking distance. We were blessed with warm and sunny weather and were able to sit outside, cook a barbecue and relax with a glass of wine or two. We can heartily recommend Kitty's Cottage and we certainly intend to stay there again in the future.

“Kitty's Cottage was Absolutely Perfect!”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2013

I’ll apologize in advance for the length of this review, however our recent stay at "Kitty’s Cottage" was absolutely perfect and I want to provide a thorough summary for future visitors lucky enough to reserve a booking! Our family of four (including two young adults), had plenty of room in the fabulous three (3) bedroom / three (3) bath “cottage”, which we made our home for a week as we took day trips to explore County Galway and the Connemara region of Ireland – it was our first visit to Ireland and owner Kathleen Griggs has certainly set a very high standard as far as expectations for subsequent visits. The numerous amenities of the home included a very efficient and practical kitchen (dishwasher, washing machine, frig, freezer, oven/stove, lots of cupboard and counter space), a lovely sitting room with fireplace and hardwood floors, and a roomy dining area (with beautiful slate tile flooring and second fireplace). Kathleen has a wonderful eye for decorating and the rooms were beautifully appointed with comfortable furniture, interesting artwork and lovely antiques. The bedrooms were cozy (two upstairs/one downstairs) and the attached baths (all with showers) were so convenient for our family. The private back yard has lovely gardens which were very picturesque during our springtime visit. There was a wonderful marriage of relaxed elegance and easy “country” comfort between the lovely home, gardens, and presence of hens/rooster and the neighboring sheep and horses. It was such a comfort knowing that Kathleen (owner) was literally right next door. She made us feel so welcome, even before we arrived, and while she was more than respectful of our privacy, she made herself available to answer our many questions about the area, make recommendations for places to visit/eat, and kindly shared some of her delicious baked goods and fresh eggs! We loved having a place to call “home” that was within an easy walk to the village of Oughterard – shops, pubs, grocers, bank, post office, visitor center and churches were easily accessible. We enjoyed the natural and pristine beauty of nearby Lake Corrib (recommend “Corrib Cruises”), as well as easy day trips to the Aran Islands, Cliffs of Mohr, seaside village of Roundstone, Kylemore Abbey, Aughnanure Castle ruins, Connemara Candles, Connemara Marble factory and showroom and Galway City. If given the opportunity to again travel to Ireland (and I hope I do!), I would most definitely try to book “Kitty’s Cottage” and would highly recommend it to family and friends travelling in that area.

“just perfect”

Reviewed 31 Mar 2012

We had a wonderful week here, the cottage was spotless, spacious, well equipped, and in a lovely and peaceful garden setting with wonderful views. The very friendly welcome included a log fire and a bunch of flowers! Centrally located for touring this wonderful area, and a pleasant walk to the village for all the amenities, it suited us down to the ground. Would love to go again sometime!
