Description

The cottage is a pretty red bricked, Victorian stable building which have been updated over a number of years. Located within the gardens of the main house the stable has it’s own driveway and sheltered courtyard. Stable doors lead into the cottage and the large well equipped kitchen breakfast room. The sitting room is bright and comfy and we have a downstairs cloakroom with shower. The stairs lead up to two very pretty bedrooms and bathroom. Both bedrooms have lovely views over East Devon. Whilst the cottage is completely self contained, guests are welcome to use the main gardens for walking, picnics or croquet. This cottage is ideally suited for people looking for peace and tranquility, wishing to get away from it all, yet is ideally located for people looking to explore East Devon by car or those wishing to enjoy peaceful walks. Shopping and restaurants in Honiton and Exeter. Beaches at Sidmouth, Exmouth and Branscombe. Fishing at Beer and Lyme Regis. Golf and pampering at Woodbury

Further details

I know from personal experience how hard it is to get away with animals - and so within reason I do try to say yes to some pets - my cottage has narrow passageways painted off white and it is just impossible with our Devon climate to keep larger dogs away from the walls - and I need always to be sensitive to the needs of all my guests and many have pet allergies -

So - I would prefer not to have pets, but if you have small easily managed dogs - let me know at the time of booking.

Further details indoors

The cottage is bright and fresh and manages to be clean and modern yet comfortable. Lots of games in the cupboard with digital TV and DVD player.

Further details outdoors

Guests are welcome to use the gardens at Holcombe Manor, we have sun-beds, tables for breakfast or supper and croquet can be played on the lawns.

Location description from owner

The England region

We are eleven miles from Exeter with it's beautiful Cathedral and wonderful shops and restaurants. The dramatic Jurassic Coast which is Englands first Natural World Heritage Site is only six miles away. The South West Coast Path can be joined at Sidmouth, a gracious Georgian town. With breathtaking scenery and majestic cliffs East Devon is quite wonderful all year round.

Ottery St. Mary

Ottery St Mary is one of the most historic towns in Devon, nestling in the beautiful Otter Valley. East Hill flanks Ottery and we can be found in Holcombe Lane a quiet and peaceful no-through lane inhabited only by farming families. The jewel in Ottery's crown is our wonderful Parish Church, voted amongst the 20 finest in England. The Poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge was born in Ottery and the Ottery Heritage Museum which is open from May to September features many aspects of the Poets life and work.Ottery is wonderful to visit at any time of the year, we have Pixie day in June and of course the World famous Tar Barrel Rolling event on Bonfire Night in November. We are ideally based to explore the local historic houses of Cadhay, Escot and Bicton with their own gardens, mazes and walks.

“A special treat retreat”

Reviewed 29 Apr 2013

Superb location, this cottage has the real wow factor as you pull up the gravel drive, amazing views and very private. Inside is immaculate and it has everything you could wish for and more, a small shower room downstairs and a good bathroom upstairs, there is no fighting when getting reading to go out! The rooms are light airy and very spacious with the kitchen having a real family feel. Its very modern clean and simple in its décor but has wonderful finishing touches that make it feel so homely. We had the best nights sleep we had in a long time, even the bird song couldn’t wake us! Cannot wait to go back and will be booking for a longer stay soon. Superb hospitality from owners, we only wished that we had stayed another night.

Thank you

“Excellent cottage!”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2013

We stayed here for two nights and the pictures do not do the cottage justice. We were greeted in a warm manner and the cottage was well stocked with everything we could need plus a few extra. The cottage was comfortable and everything was in excellent condition. We would recommend this rental to all and look forward to returning in the future.

Thank you - I am glad that you enjoyed your stay.

“A treasure of a holiday cottage”

Reviewed 13 Oct 2012

We spent a week at Holcombe Manor Stables and greatly enjoyed our time there. The welcome was warm and hearty, with scones, clotted cream and home-made jam waiting for us. The cottage was cosy, exquisitely furbished and full of nice touches. It is spacious so that even on a rainy day we never felt squeezed in. A real gem to which we hope to return.

Thank you so much.

“I want to go again!”

Reviewed 17 May 2011

Fantastic property for rental, set in beaufiul grounds and countryside, hosts are welcoming and non-intrusive. We were welcomed by homemade scones, clotted cream and jam on the table! Very good value, amazing property inside and out and only a short drive to local beach and surrounding villages. Everything is within easy reach and the town of Ottery St Mary is lovely with great shops and a great tea room. I would happily recommend this property to anybody and plan to go back as soon as possible!

Thank you so much for such a lovely review.
