The TRULLAMIA is a typical arch-shaped lamia in Apulian countryside style, where you can enjoy the rural scenery, situated in a quiet area about 4 km from the village Casalini, where one can find supermarkets and restaurants, and less then 10 minutes from the cities Ostuni and Cisternino. The closest beaches are at about 20 minutes by car. The property lies on the border of the valley of Itria, one of the most fascinating valleys in Puglia, known for the trulli (typical and exclusive cone-shaped houses in stone), the lamias and masserias (big farm houses). The scenery is marked by countless stone walls, constructed with the typical rocks from the neighbourhood, dividing the typical red coloured land into different patches.
The road to the property winds in between stone walls, far away from the hectic city traffic. Once through the gate you drive in between agricultural terraces in different levels of height, separated by naturally built stone walls.
Behind the private parking space a path leads to a spacious outside sitting area, shaded with a bamboo roof, attached to the house, in style “shabby chic”. The furniture evokes the graciousness and beauty of the former days, in harmony with the romantic and enjoying countryside.
The house has 2 entrances: one leads directly into the kitchen, the second and main entrance opens up to the main living and dining area, furnished with a sofa bed, an enjoyable corner cupboard with the dining tools, an antique 6-person dining table and 2 antique wooden trunks for the bed linen.
Adjacent is a small kitchen in natural stone walls, well equipped with an electric oven, a gas hob and a refrigerator.
At the other side, a little hall leads to the bathroom, with a handmade stone carved sink and a large shower, carved out in the rocks. Right next door one finds an attractive and romantic bedroom with a king size bed and a niche cupboard. Through the window on the other side one can admire the landscape.
From the main area, a staircase in wrought iron leads down to the second bedroom, carved out in the rocks, with 2 single beds and a beautiful antique cupboard.
One can also find the “shabby”-style throughout the garden, with a table and sitting areas, offering great views of the area and partly shaded with bamboo.
The house can easily accommodate 5 to 6 people and is ideal for a couple or a family.
The building materials used are carefully chosen in accordance to local traditions and with respect for the environment and the traditional architecture, but also up to modern standards with air conditioning and a heating system, allowing a comfortable stay in all seasons.
The surrounding area is ideal for one who loves long walks, jogging, trekking and bicycling, because one can easily wonder around without any dangers or annoyances, enjoying the scenery and the unseen sunsets in the unspoilt nature of the peaceful countryside.
In the neighbourhood one can visit various tourist high spots, like Ostuni, “the white city”; the baroque Martina Franca, capital of the valley of Itria; Locorotondo, one of the most beautiful towns in Italy; Cisternino, offering great views of the valley; the caves of Castellana, the most spectacular geological site in Italy, with stalagmites and stalactites that through their composition render the inner landscape almost surreal; Alberobello, capital of the trulli and Unesco-patrimonial; the geological site of Egnazia, showing the foundations of an old Messapican and Apulian city of the 5th to the 3rd century B.C., with parts of the former walls and acropolis, and traces of the Romans, such like a town square, streets and a Christian church.
The children can enjoy the Zoosafari close to Fasano, the largest fauna park in Italy, with numerous species of all continents. The park stretches out over 140 hectares, mostly covered with Mediterranean bushes. One part can be visited with your own car (Safari), another part contains pathways through local fauna and a fun park (Fasolandia).
The guests can also relax on the beaches of Polignano and Monopoli, known for their nightlife; Savelletri, known for its restaurants and its exclusive golfcourt; Torre Canne, with its long stretch of gold sandy beach; Marina di Ostuni; Torre Guaceto National Maritime Park, a protected area with typical rock formations alternating with sandy bays, leading to the beaches of Salento.
