Description

San Martino is a secluded, 18th century lakeside farmhouse which has been beautifully and simply restored. It sits on its own peninsula, surrounded on three sides by water, with grounds of approx. 25 acres/10 hectares. The 20 metre swimming pool is set in landscaped gardens bordering the lake. On the ground floor the house has a large drawing room with an open fireplace, a library, dining room and spacious professional kitchen leading out towards the pool. There are 8 en-suite bedrooms on the first floor with 2 walk-through bedrooms without bathrooms, and 2 more bedrooms sharing a family bathroom in the attic, although we rarely use these rooms, as they get very warm in the summer. The house sleeps 18 very comfortably.

The house has WI-FI, fire-pit, BBQ, table tennis and a basket-ball net. There is an ‘in-house cinema’ with a wide selection of DVDs. There is air-conditioning available on payment of a surcharge although the house stays relatively cool in summer due to

San Martino is situated on Lake Corbara which lies between Orvieto and Todi among the rolling hills of Southern Umbria, with the river Tiber running from one city towards the other. It is between Rome and Florence, with the mainline train station to both cities just 12kms away.

The nearest bar, shop and pizzeria is in the tiny village of Corbara just 3km away. Baschi is 8km away and has a small supermarket, petrol station, bars and a couple of restaurants. The hills surrounding the lake are scattered with beautiful hilltop towns providing ample exploration by car or on foot and some excellent restaurants serving local Umbrian fare.

Location description from owner

The Umbria region

Umbria holds all of the delights of Tuscany, but has less tourists and costs less too. You have all fo the history and culture with ready access to Orvieto, Assisi, Gubbio, Todi and Spoleto and plenty of smaller hidden places to discover like Bagnoreggio or Torre Alfina. We have hills and mountains and they are littered with beatiful walks and lakes and waterfalls. The food and wine in Umbria is some of the best in Italy (certainly if you talk to locals) and if you need exercise after it all you can choose from the myriad of cycling trails, or head to Bolsena (the largest vocanic lake in Europe) for some water sports. You can do everything here from wine tours to canyoning to visiting the tomb of St. Francis or walking in the footsteps of Etruscans. If you want to go futher afied you can reach Rome, Siena, Florence or Perugia all in under 2 hours.

Orvieto

In the immediate vicinity of the house (within 15 mins) you can go cycling, walking, sailing, fishing, horse-riding, bridge jumping, canyoning, wine tasting, visit Roman ruins, walk Etruscan routes, visit underground cave systems, listen to opera in the theatre or discover a village abandoned for more than 50 years. We have plenty of great restaurants depending on whether you want a quick pizza or a tasting menu with 2 michelin stars or anything in between.
