The guesthouse is situated inside the private estate of the well-known "Glass House", just 70 meters from the spectacular cliffs of Loiba. The estate sits on top of a hill overlooking the small village of Loiba to the south-east and the ocean and Estaca de Bares to the north-east. The guesthouse has been furnished as if it were our own home with personal touches and we hope that our guests will feel so comfortable that they will never want to leave!

The house is a 10 minute walk to the beautiful beach, Playa de Fabega, a 15 minute walk to Picon, another spectacular beach, and a 30-40 minute walk to Esteiro, a beach well-known to surfers but also perfect for families since the Esteiro river ends there, making it perfect for children to swim in since the water is calm and very shallow. All these locations can also be reached by bicycle, motorbike, or car. Although most people come visit the area by car, one could also easily come here without one. The FEVE train station(daily trains to and from Ferrol) is just down the hill about 400 meters away and the bus station (daily buses to and from La Coruña and Santiago de Compstela) is just 700 meters away. There is a small supermarket about 400 meters away that has absolutely everything, several Bars/cafés, and a very good restaurant that offers local cuisine.

The activities in the area endless, I could easily write a book! “Wonderfull relaxing place”

Reviewed 28 Mar 2016

We really enjoyed staying at this wonderful house with its relaxing atmosphere. It's the ideal place for people who like nature, as there is wonderful hiking paths around the house and in the whole area. The house owners have a lot of good ideias where to walk and what to do and it is really worth listening to them. Even when the weather should not be so good, it's no problem as the accommodation is really well equipped and comforts you.

Thank-you for being great guests! We enjoyed meeting you and look forward to a next time ;-) Best wishes to you both!

“We loved this cosy, comfortable, convenient little guest house in the Galician countryside!!!”

Reviewed 1 Mar 2016

Claudia and Victor have built a dream of a home in this very most northern region of Spain. The weather here is harsh, but the guest home is a cosy, warm little haven after a day out trekking in the cold. This is the most stylish, elegant rural getaway I've ever found in Spain. The wood stove was definitely my favourite feature, but the well-equipped kitchen, spacious bathroom and very comfortable bed also topped the list. Also loved the sitting room. Great place to warm up in front of the fire after a day of trekking along cliffs and beaches. We only had a weekend but I'd love to go back and stay for a month! And this guest house would be the perfect place for an extended stay. It's got absolutely everything you need to feel perfectly at home. Finally, Victor and Claudia were the best hosts ever! We had an action packed agenda, but fortunately found time for coffee and Claudia's amazing, homemade cookies! (It would be worth going back just for more cookies:) Thanks for everything!

Thank-you so much for your kind words! We are so glad you got to get a sneak peek at this remote yet stunning part of Spain, and it was an absolute pleasure to be your hosts! We very much hope we get the chance to do so again! Best wishes to you both!

“Luxury in the midst of Galician perfection”

The Glasshouse must be the most comfortable and well appointed self catering in Galicia. Perfect for our small family (2 adults, 2 children 4&6). The private self contained accommodation is really secluded and private and we sank straight into holiday bliss. The weather was great during our stay allowing us to enjoy some of the best beaches in Europe often having them to ourselves. I am almost nervous to write this review in case too many people decide to start heading there!

We realise the world is large and there are many places to see, but we truly hope you come visit again! It was an immense pleasure for us to be your hosts!. Regards to all!

“Location is wonderful”

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at Casa Cristal. We were warmly welcomed by the owners and the accommodation is stylish, modern and very comfortable. The apartment looks out over the countryside and is private. A short walk from the apartment there is a 'mirador' with a spectacular view of the Galician coast. We loved it!

Thank-you for being so kind and respectful. We very much enjoyed having you as guests and hope to see you again one day!

“Stunning house in a hidden corner of Spain”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2014

We spent a week with our 13 year old son in this beautiful property and thoroughly enjoyed it. The accommodation is perfect for a couple or a small family and the views are stunning. Within 5 minutes you can walk to the almost empty local beaches which are backed by high cliffs, accessed by steep paths and reminded us of Cornwall. Or a 10 minute drive takes you to a cluster of Caribbean like white sand beaches around picturesque fishing ports. Very few British tourist seem to visit this beautiful part of Spain and English isn't widely spoken but we managed with a few basic words. Claudia and Victor are great hosts and will give you lots of information about the local area and the best places to visit.

Thank-you for your kindness and for being such wonderful guests! We look forward to crossing paths again some day!

“The perfect place to relax and slow down”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2014

The accommodation is cosy, bright and a lovely place to just sit and take in the fantastic view. The location is peaceful with some of the quietest and most beautiful beaches you are likely to find anywhere, right on the doorstep. Claudia and Victor are wonderful hosts welcoming you to their beautiful home and sharing their love of this quiet part of Northern Spain. We spent as much time pottering around the locality, walking along the beautiful cliffs of Loiba, chatting to Claudia and Victor and enjoying the grounds of the Glass House as we did travelling further afield: which tells you all you need to know – that the holiday will be as much about enjoying the accommodation as it is about enjoying Galicia. Some other points that may be of interest: - The local village shop is very well stocked so there’s no need to make the mistake that we did and do a big supermarket shop on the way! - We found numerous places to eat within a short drive including various restaurants in Porto do Barqueiro and the Hotel Samaforo de Bares (try and book your meal around sunset). - The sheltered nearby Beach Area Longa at O Vicedo is very calm for swimming. - The longer drives to As Catedrais and the Fragas do Eume are well worth it. This is the antidote to the frantic, exhausting sightseeing holiday we may have taken in the past.

It was an absolute pleasure to have you as our guests! Thank-you for being so kind, considerate and tidy. We very much hope to see you again some day, either here or elsewhere in the world, and in the meantime we will certainly stay in touch. All the best to you!

“Beautiful Getaway”

Reviewed 7 Apr 2014

We came upon this gem of a place by accident! While on a trip to Santiago de Compostela, we decided to take a drive to the little-known Cliffs of Loiba (about an hour and a half drive), and came across this stunning property while taking a walk along a scenic route. The owners were working in the garden and we stopped to chat with them, admiring their home, and asked if they knew of a nice little hotel we could spend the night in as we wished to explore the area a little more. They laughed and told us that their guest house was available for rent and so we had a look and loved it! We ended up staying 4 days and would have stayed more if we didn't have to go back to New York. It was so beautifully decorated, with taste and very cozy. There is a lot to do in the area if you like to hike, walk, bike-ride(the house has bicycles), kayak, and there are at least 5 beaches that are walking distance from the house. One of the best vacations we've ever had!

“Truly, a hidden gem”

The glass house is ideal. Situated upon a gorgeous hillside with sweeping views of the surrounding area, this stunning home offers elegance and tranquility. The room is emaculate, complete with a luxurious bathroom, kitchen area and sitting area separate from the bedroom. The hosts graciously provide everything one could need for a peaceful getaway. A perfect place to stay for walks to beaches and for gorgeous hikes in the forest. I coudnt have been happpier there!!

Thank-you for being such wonderful guests! We very much look forward to having you stay with us again soon!

I enjoyed my stay in Ortigueira in all senses. You'll find there all what you need for unforgetable hollydays in Galicia. Peace, high level of comfort, best sugestions from owners, lonely private beach and you'll feel at home just five minutes afther your arrival. Ok some rain....but necesary if you like green pictures. Alex

We're so happy you enjoyed your stay here and hope to accommodate you again in the future!
