Location description from owner

The Piedmont region

Piemonte has 160,000 hectares of protected land and provides the opportunity to discover unique countryside and habitats typical of alpine areas, and of hills and plains.
41% of the region is characterised by imposing mountain chains which are home to internationally-renowned ski resorts while the remaining 59% is divided between hills and plains, which include the main rice fields in Europe.
In Piemonte there are 2 national parks: the Gran Paradiso and the Val Grande, and particular importance is paid to the area of the river Po, which covers the entire stretch of the river in Piemonte as well as the area to the north-east, occupied by the lakes: Lago Maggiore, lago d'Orta, lago di Mergozzo and the lakes of Avigliana represent a microcosm of emotions and a particularly seductive opportunity for those in search of unusual and fascinating places.
The essence of Piemonte is a synthesis of nature, taste, history, art, culture and popular tradition.

The food and wine tradition of Piemonte enjoys international fame, in restaurant rankings and in food and wine guides, the region always takes the top spots.
A success owed to the ability of the chefs, masters of mixing traditional flavors with those of nouvelle cuisine, but also to the certified quality of Piemonte products.
Land and cuisine form an inseparable union that contributes to preserving the identity of a land and its people.
The wealth of typical Piemonte products allows us to taste excellent rice-based dishes, truffles, cheeses, and meats, all accompanied by a vast selection of fresh vegetables.
Each dish may also be accompanied by dry or sweet wines, reds, roses, or whites, and always top quality. In fact, 80% of Piemonte wines have DOC (designation of controlled origin) and DOCG (designation of controlled origin and guaranteed) certification.
For beer lovers, the large selection of local and microbrewery beers distributed throughout the region allows us to try top-level artisanal products.

Orta San Giulio

The area around Lake Orta has long been a favorite tourists, thanks to the quiet beauty of the landscape, its fascinating history and its wealth of artistic treasures - principally Romanesque and Baroque architecture.
Lake Orta lies to the west of Lake Maggiore, it is one of the smallest and least-known of northern Italy's sub-Alpine lakes.
The German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, who visited the lake in May 1882 and believed that the experience changed his life forever, inscribed the date "von Orta an" ("from Orta onwards") as a preface to his masterpiece Thus Spake Zarathustra.
Other 19th-century writers enchanted by its quiet beauty include the French novelist Honoré de Balzac, who wrote rapturously of this "grey pearl in a green jewel-box", and Robert Browning. His poem "By the Fireside", which contemplates the beauty of a setting where "Alp meets heaven in snow".
The famous italian writer, Piero Chiara, called Orta San Giulio "God's Watercolor". The facade of the houses overlooking the main Orta San Giulio's square reminds what Chiara wrote. And Augusto Mazzetti, journalist and poet, used to call this square "the living room".
The Sacro Monte of Orta is located within a historical parc, nowadays a nature reserve, and comprises 21 votive chapels dating back to the end of the XVIth and the XVIIIth centuries with frescoes and sculptures of terra cotta narrating the life of San Francesco of Assisi. Sacro Monte d'Orta is in the World Heritage List safeguarded by UNESCO.
