Description from owner

A comfortably furnished stone built holiday cottage on the north shore of Scapa Flow, with fine unspoilt views south over the Flow and west to the hills of Hoy. The cottage stands in 6 acres of open unfenced farmland

The cottage was converted in 1998 from traditional croft buildings to provide a unique environment for family holidays in one of the Orkney mainlands most popular parishes.

The cottage is equidistant from Kirkwall and Stromness and is a mile from the south isles ferry terminal of Houton. With excellent walking country in the Orphir hills, and a short drive to Maeshowe, the Ring of Brodgar and the Standing Stones, the cottage provides a perfect base for exploring the mainland and south isles.

Getting around

Interaction with guest

Our housekeeper lives in Orphir Village which is just up the road from the cottage. She will be there to meet you on arrival to hand you the keys and introduce you to the facilities. And if you are arriving on the late night boat from Aberdeen, she will leave the keys out for you in a safe place. Just give her a ring a few days before arrival to tell her your arrival time and the number in your party and she'll then make the necessary preparation for your arrival.

A superb cottage in every way. The location and views are breathtaking. Dog friendly in everyway. Cannot fault it in any way at all. Many attractions nearby which are too numerous to mention. Shopping nearby in Stormness or Kirkwall for essentials. Wildlife visible every morning through bedroom or living room windows. The most relaxing, chilled out holiday and location we have had. Thank you.
