Description

Situated on the outskirts of Órgiva, in the fertile Guadalfeo valley, Cortijo La Viana is one of the most seductive holiday properties in the area. In the heart of an ancient olive and orange grove, these delightful, traditionally styled cottages, and an inviting, private swimming pool, provide one of the most enticing holiday retreats in the area. Traditional smallholding farming continues to provide the backbone of the local economy, and the wonderfully easy-going, calm lifestyle makes it virtually impossible not to relax! Unlike many local areas, development and outside influence have been very limited here, and La Viana is privileged to be part of one of the most authentically rural areas in the Alpujarra.

The setting really is very special indeed; to the south the views of the Lujar Mountains and the Guadalfeo valley are splendid. To the north, Sierra Nevada, (the highest mountain range in Spain reaching 3,500mts or 11,500ft) snow covered for a large part of the year,

The setting really is very special indeed; to the south the views of the Lujar Mountains and the Guadalfeo valley are splendid. To the north, Sierra Nevada, (the highest mountain range in Spain reaching 3,500mts or 11,500ft) snow covered for a large part of the year, offers a spectacular backdrop. The property itself has some of the oldest and largest olive trees anywhere, dating from the time of the Moors who ruled this area for nearly 800 years, and the abundance of orange and other citrus trees offers an oasis of greenery difficult to equal in the region.

The cottages, newly built, to an unusually high standard each have 2 generous sized bedrooms (twin or double) with plenty of cupboard space, a bathroom and a sitting/dinning area with fully equipped kitchen. A sofa bed can provide extra sleeping space if needed. There is shady porch at the front of each house, looking out over the valley and mountains, and providing a great spot for meals, lazing around and star gazing at night.

Traditional design and features throughout have been incorporated to provide warmth and character; wood-beam ceilings, traditionally hand-made ceramic tiles, stonework and an open fire place for the chillier winter nights all contribute to create a truly charming atmosphere. At the same time, modern building techniques and design ensure a level of comfort and "user-friendliness" uncommon in many places of otherwise similar characteristics

Lazing in and around the pool is one of the best ways to really chill out. It is situated in the midst of the trees and the views out to the mountains as you float are not to be missed. The pool is for the exclusive use of guests at the cottages.

The market town of Órgiva is just 5 minutes away by car, (20 min-walk). Here you will find all amenities such as shops, banks, post office, bars and restaurants etc. public transport, doctors and so on. There is a street market every Thursday, a good time to wander around town and experience local life and colour.

Exploring the region is a delight. A drive up into the mountains to the tiny, whitewashed villages that somehow manage to cling to the slopes of mountains is a must. Hill walking is very popular, with routes to suit everyone, and there are a lot of other outdoor activities such as horse riding, mountain biking, hang gliding etc.

Further afield, Granada (1 hour) is one of the most beautiful of all European cities. It was the capital of the last Moorish kingdom in Spain and their legacy is visible everywhere, no more so than in the breathtakingly beautiful Alhambra palace complex, considered one of the finest examples of Muslim architecture anywhere in Europe.

The coast is just 30 minutes away, Salobreña being the nearest resort, whilst a little further away there are many small beaches and coves still virtually untouched by mass tourism.

National Geographic described this region as “one of the most inspiring and uplifting areas in the world”. This, together with first rate accommodation and amenities, plus a truly enviable climate, all contribute to ensure that a holiday spent at La Viana will leave you relaxed and refreshed like never before.
