Description

El Tinao is a new townhouse in the heart of the unspoiled village of Canar. The house is unique in the village, being the only property that retains a 'tinao' - a feature unique to Berber architecture which connects buildings on both sides of narrow village streets. Built in the traditional Alpujarran style, El Tinao is light and spacious, with high ceilings, chestnut beams and slate stone floors throughout. There are two terraces, one for outdoor dining and a BBQ, the other with sun loungers and a heated spa. Both, of course, have those wonderful soaring views over the village, high above Orgiva and across to the Sierra Lugar. On a clear day, you can see the Rif Mountains of Morocco.It's easy to lose track of time in Canar, but don't worry - you can also see the village clock tower from the terraces. It won't help you with the day of the week, but at least you'll know when to nip out to catch the bread van for croissants in the morning!

Granada and La Alhambra are an hour by car, while the ancient cities of Sevilla and Cordoba are easily managed in day trips. The beaches of Salobrena and Almunecar are about 40 minutes by car.

Orgiva

Unspoiled, wildlife, lush, mountains, flora, sunsets, sunrises, friendly, historic, alternative, tapas, Berber, peaceful, Moorish... so many descriptions used and overused in a thousand narratives of La Alpujarra. For me, it's the light. Mountains appear so close in the morning, crisp and clearly defined, then seem to retreat in hazy pastel shades in the heat of the sun. The day ends with long shadows, javelins of light from the west, sharp on whitewashed village walls in the evening. Bliss.
