Description from owner

Description

Private cottage very close to the white sand of Spring Beach. The cottage is on a large block in a bush setting with beautiful views of the beach, Maria Island and the Triabunna lighthouse. Birds are in abundance and there is also a resident echidna and occasional sightings of wallabies and wombats.

The sunny cottage has a large deck around the eastern and northern sides. The front deck is ideal for breakfasting in the sunshine and watching the waves, the fishing boats heading out and the morning joggers. The side deck is a great place for a BBQ and an evening drink in the setting sun. There is a large grassed area for boules or badminton and there is also an on-site tennis court (all equipment provided).

The main bedroom with queen bed has a wonderful beach view. The second bedroom has a set of bunkbeds, a single bed and a trundle so can sleep up to four. A portacot, highchair and pram are also available.

A cosy wood heater warms the entire house and wood is supplied.

The kitchen is stocked with basic condiments, tea, coffee and a complimentary bottle of Tasmanian Pinot Noir from the owners' winery.

There are magnificent scenic walks from Spring Beach with paths around the cliffs at either end of the beach. To access the southern cliff walk, climb the steps to the Bluff at the end of the beach and then walk in front of the row of houses (it is public land) to the point and you can then continue until the path rejoins Rheban Road. The round trip takes about half an hour. For a longer walk you can follow the road until you reach the track down to Stapleton Beach.

The northern cliff walk commences on the track near the public BBQs and passes through bushland and past an old quarry before reaching the cliff edge. This track has recently been upgraded and is wide enough to facilitate bikes or prams and continues as far as Shelley Beach.

Spring Beach is good for swimming and the southern end provides good snorkelling. The rockpools at either end of the beach are always popular with the children.

Orford is a 5 minute drive away and has a fully stocked supermarket, a post office, a cafe and pizza restaurant and childrens' playground. Across the bridge there is also a hotel, bottle-shop, seafood restaurant and take away/petrol station.

Darlington Winery is at the northern end of Orford and offers free tastings.

The Orford School Hall becomes a cinema on a weekly basis and the Bowls Club has special meals for guests on Friday nights.

Ferries leave from Triabunna (15 mins north) for Maria Is. twice daily.

Spring Beach is on the East Coast and is 1 hour from Hobart and 45 minutes from the Hobart airport.

Triabunna is 15 minutes north, Swansea 1 hour north and Freycinet Peninsula (Coles Bay & Wineglass Bay) is approximately 90 minutes north. The road is very scenic passing through bushland and following the magnificent coastline. There are a number of wineries en route open for tastings and sales of premium East Coast Wines.
