Description

Casa Cueva La Piedra is a beautifully restored and fully furnished self catering cave-house, with all mod cons including free WIFI, available for holiday rental and mini-breaks in the heart of the stunning unspoilt countryside of rural inland Andalucia in Southern Spain.
Hewn from the rock and set on the very edge of the small village of Fuente Nueva, near Orce in the province of Granada and with far reaching views to the mountains, the cave-house is in a wonderful location. Inside the ceilings are high and the rooms are airy and spacious, with most having natural light.

Sleeping up to 6, the cave consists of three bedrooms, two doubles and one with 2 single beds, a cosy sitting-room with an open fire, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. Outside is a good-sized garden with mature trees for shade, a table and chairs and a barbecue area.
The surrounding scenery is very varied, ranging from semi-desert, scrub-covered hills, cut through by fertile irrigated valleys, to high

The surrounding scenery is very varied, ranging from semi-desert, scrub-covered hills, cut through by fertile irrigated valleys, to high mountain ranges whose lower slopes are clad in vast pine forests. There are several natural parks in the area, where the possibilities for walking, picnicking and observing the wildlife are virtually limitless. Mountain bikes can be hired locally and there are fascinating guided walking and cycling tours available.

Anyone interested in archaeology will find plenty to occupy them too, with the village and area famous for its archaeological finds. The towns in the region have numerous fiestas, one of the most interesting being Orce's two week long cultural festival in August.
Road access is excellent considering the untouched nature of the region. The cave is around 1½ hours from Granada airport, 2 hours from Almeria and a little over 2 hours from Alicante and Murcia San Javier airports, the majority of the route being by dual carriageway.

Casa Cueva La Piedra is ideal for all times of the year and of course at Christmas it is a truly magical place.

We are pet friendly.

We have another property in the area, a restored farmhouse with a private pool, called Cortijo Romero property ID 1269989.

Location description from owner

The Andalucia region

The historic city of Granada is around one & a half hours drive away. Well worth a visit for its elegant squares & winding streets, Granada also boasts the world famous Alhambra, with its wonderfully preserved palace and the beautiful gardens. Above the city is the ski resort of the Sierra Nevada.
Less than half an hour away from the cave-house the dramatically sited castle at Velez Blanco has splendid views, and all the towns in the region offer street cafes and bars to sit and watch the world go by.

Orce

The cave-house is on the edge of the village of Fuenta Nueva, seven kilometres from the historic town of Orce in north-eastern Granada. The town of Orce has a Moorish castle and a fascinating museum, plus a beautiful old church, and there are shops, banks, bars and restaurants, as well as a weekly market. There are good quality reasonably priced restaurants where a menu del dia is 10€ per head including all courses, drinks and coffee. It is also well worth sitting in the bar in the square sampling the free tapas with a few drinks and watching the world go by. Orce has a natural free swimming pool, spring fed, which is a lovely relaxing place to spend some time, it also has a bar and restaurant. There are many villages to explore and the mountain town of Castril has a dramatic gorge which you can walk through on an elevated wooden platform. Granada is a must for the Alhambra etc and this can be done as a day trip from the cave.

Paisajes De Orce - Guided tours of this beautiful area with knowledgeable guides who speak English. La Torre del Salar - An old Arab watch tower which makes for a fantastic walk from the cave. Hire of mountain bikes, cycling routes and guided rides available as well. The bikes can be delivered to Casa Cueva La Piedra

Twelve kilometres in the other direction is the unspoilt wilderness of the natural park of the Sierra de Maria. This is a dramatic landscape of forests & mountains, which rise to a height of over 2000 metres. There are numerous tracks and pathways where you can walk for miles with little likelihood of meeting other people.
Twenty minutes drive away is the regional centre of Huescar, another historic town with a greater range of shops , busy restaurants & bars. This is an ideal place to sit outside a street cafe and watch the world go by, or relax in one of the many bars where free tapas are served with every drink.
A bustling market every Thursday fills the streets and squares and is a great place to soak up the atmosphere of 'real' Spain.
To the north is the vast natural park of the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, another region of forests & mountains, famed for its wildlife. Between Huescar & the park is the highest mountain of the area, La Sagra and there are signed footpaths to the top, should you have the energy.
A drive in any direction will take you through stunning scenery and you will encounter little other traffic.
The nearest coast is around one and a quarter hours drive away at Aguilas, a typical Spanish resort and not over commercialised. Close by are numerous unspoilt beaches which are rarely crowded.
Closer to home, Orce and Huescar have natural spring swimming pools called Fuencaliente, where you can swim with fish!

Walkers & nature lovers should be in their element, with endless opportunities for exploring the wilderness.
