Location description from owner

The Limousin region

The Limousin is a beautiful part of France, enjoying the full four seasons each year although the summer is warmer and longer than in the UK. The region has the lowest pollution in the whole of France, being quite sparsely populated and is blessed with a landscape of rolling hills, lakes and mixed forest. This was the favourite home of Richard the Lionheart and you can see his influence and indeed follow his trail all over the area. For those who enjoy the outdoor life this region is excellent for walking, cycling and there are many facilities for horseriding, fishing, golfing, tennis and water sports. There are also good swimming lakes with beaches in the locality - a french speciality as most of the population live inland! There are many beautiful and historic towns and villages to visit - the larger cities of Limoges (40min) and Perigueux (60min) are well within reach and worth visiting for their culture and history as well as excellent markets.

Oradour-sur-Vayres

Our small hamlet is just 5 minutes from the two small towns of Oradour sur Vayres and Chalus (scene of Richard the Lionheart's untimely demise), where you'll find all the shops you need from supermarkets with fresh fish and meat counters to small artisan bakers, butchers and pharmacies. Our most local bakers (boulangeries) are just 2-3 minutes away for very fresh daily bread and croissants! Most of the local villages and towns hold summer fetes throughout the season, some with fireworks. There are regular evening farmers' markets with entertainment. The last weekend of July sees Oradour sur Vayres totally transformed into a huge summer fair, with fairground attractions lining every street and lots of events, culminating in the grand firework display.
