"If you could picture the most perfect romantic Irish cottage, Pollan Rua is it."
Pollan is the real deal, a centuries old stone cottage and barn brought back to life by Charlie and Bernadette's conscientious restoration. White-washed stone walls and panoramic views of gorgeous and remote Sperrin Valley from both the tv room and enormous bathroom. The kitchen tables were made by Charlie from single giant slabs of the last fellings of Irish Elm. We stayed for a week in February and the garden was already crammed with snowdrops and daffodils, the house was so toasty - underfloor heating - and the fireplaces set with turf for us when we arrived. The owners' husbandry of the land extends beyond the grounds of the house itself, they've reclaimed surrounding pockets as sheltered havens for wildlife and flowers to thrive. It's a magic place.
