Description from owner

Description

This lovely terraced gite, one of 5 similar ones available, overlooks the garden and swimming pool of a former wealthy wine-producer and trader's house in Olonzac, the 'capital' of the Minervois wine-producing region. The owners have tried to think about everything to make your stay here comfortable and enjoyable.

Ideal for a holiday for 2, house-hunting or sight-seeing in the area, the gites were converted from the stables & staff quarters of the old house. They comprise a comfortable living-room & galley-style kitchenette on the ground floor, and a spacious bedroom and shower room on the 1st floor.

Outside on the gravelled terrace is a table and chairs for dining alfresco or relaxing with a cool drink. Although the terrace is shared with the other gite guests here, making for a convivial outside space, you are free to make use of the large garden to find a quiet spot to sit if you prefer. If you would like a private terrace, please check to see if GITE TOPAZE DOREE is

The property has a lovely, large swimming pool in the garden and a outdoor spa pool/jacuzzi, ideal for relaxing in after a day's sightseeing. The swimming pool and the jacuzzi are heated between April and the end of October.

Situated in the lively town of Olonzac which has shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and a Tuesday morning colourful market - all just a few steps away. However despite being in the town, the garden location of the gites is both tranquil and charming.

Further details indoors

The living/dining area and kitchenette are all open-plan on the ground floor . The TV receives UK satellite channels and the gites are centrally-heated making them ideal for an out-of-season holiday. The galley-style kitchenette is well-equipped with fridge/freezer, oven, microwave, and all crockery & utensils. There is a washing-machine in a communal area which belongs to the owner; you can use it with permission for a small charge - and an iron and ironing board on request.

All the gites have WiFi internet access for use with your own laptop or tablet.

On the 1st floor is a double bedroom over-looking the pool, with hanging and storage. The shower room has a power shower, washbasin and w.c.

Further details outdoors

Location description from owner

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

This part of the Languedoc has a sunny Mediterranean climate. It can be hot in summer, but the temperature is often tempered by a breeze. Now the 3rd most visited region in France by British people, the Languedoc offers something for everyone. Miles of long, sandy beaches, coastal lagoons, vibrant cities such as Narbonne and Montpellier, historical sites such as Carcassonne and the Cathar castles, fabulous scenery, great cuisine and vineyards, vineyards, vineyards.

Olonzac

The town of Olonzac is the 'capital' of the Minervois region and well-serviced with shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants - it's lively in summer and has its own festival in August. You can play tennis locally. At Lac du Jouarres, a short drive or bike ride away, you'll find a beach, swimming, wind-surfing and fishing. It's a great area for cycling with many interesting villages and the Canal du Midi close by.

Olonzac has a lively festival in August with street markets, festivities and live music in the park. Please enquire for the dates.

Olonzac's a great base for exploring the Minervois & wine-lovers will find many local chateaux and 'domaines' offering wine-tasting and direct sale of wine and olive-oil. Whilst here you can also visit the ancient city of Minerve, the medieval city of Carcassonne, Narbonne with its Archbishop's palace, cathedral and indoor market, Beziers and its staircase of 9 locks on the Canal du Midi at Fontseranes, the abbeys of Fontfroide and Lagrasse and the beach resorts of Narbonne- and Gruissan-Plage.

There are some good restaurants in Olonzac and the surrounding villages.
