Cockburn Street is well-known for its lively, varied character. This narrow, cobbled thoroughfare curves steeply up the hill between Waverley Station and the Royal Mile, and is home to an impressive array of eclectic shops and cosy bars and eateries.
Throughout the year it is a popular destination for locals shopping for unique fashion and giftware, or seeking to enjoy the street's medieval charm alongside a hearty meal and relaxed drink. It's a friendly, laid-back neighbourhood, despite its heavy foot traffic, and the perfect place to sample Edinburgh's idiosyncratic spirit.

The Edinburgh region
Edinburgh is a multi-award-winning, world-class tourist destination. A must-see cultural capital. From stunning skylines to sandy beaches, festivals to fireworks – the city has something for everyone, day and night.
A modern day Jekyll and Hyde, the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, split between the medieval Old Town and the Georgian splendor of the New Town.
But Edinburgh isn't living in the past - it's a vibrant, cosmopolitan city, boasting an exceptional blend of contemporary pubs and bars, restaurants, specialist retailers and leading tourist attractions.
Days can be spent exploring the city's medieval alleyways and glorious architecture – not least the magnificent Edinburgh Castle, dramatically perched on an extinct volcano, high above the city centre.
Old Town, Edinburgh
Discover Edinburgh's amazingly preserved medieval Old Town as you wander its labyrinthine network of narrow alleyways and cobbled streets. Admire its Reformation-era tenement buildings as you walk down the Royal Mile from the top of Castle Rock where Edinburgh Castle sits, to the grand Palace of Holyroodhouse.
See the magnificent vaulted ceiling and ornate tombs of St Giles' Cathedral and view priceless artefacts in the recently refurbished National Museum of Scotland on Chambers Street.
You can even delve beneath the town's surface on an Edinburgh Vaults Tours and discover a secret subterranean world of forgotten chambers that once housed the city's poor.
While the Old Town is a fascinating destination at any time of year, it is particularly captivating in August when its austere streets come alive with the sights and sounds of the Edinburgh Fringe and Festival.

Rented this apartment for it's location during the Edinburgh Fringe when needed to get to numerous venues all over the city at all times. It was perfect for this. Many steps up to it which kept us fit. Above a Nepalese restauarant so greeted with wonderful cooking aroma through the main entrance. Beautiful lounge; well-equipped kitchen; bathroom with shower & good main bedroom. 2nd bedroom rather cramprd, comprising 2 bunk beds but as was hardly in it this did not cause a problem. It would not do for 2 large adults however! Would rent this again as it provided all we looked for. No WiFi sadly.

"Marvellous location for a short stay in Edinburgh"
We had a great time in Edinburgh, and this flat was a great base. We found it quiet at night yet near to the bustle of the old town. It is very close to the station and good restaurants. The kitchen is small - I wouldn't want to prepare a three course meal, but it is fine for breakfasts and lunches.

"Lovely Flat In A Lovely Location"
Arrangements over the internet for getting the keys went well. The owner provided some useful tips about where to park the car. Everything in flat worked/in good condition and it was all very comfortable. Excellent location for the centre of Edinburgh.
