The Sardinia region
Sardinia is an island of the Western Mediterranean Basin, larger than Corsica and second in size only to Sicily, and surrounded by the Tyrrhenian and Sardinian Seas. Inland its territory is predominantly hilly and mountainous, with a group of massifs.
The coastline of rocks and islets encloses steep coves with beaches of white sand. Some of these are remarkably enticing, such as Liscia di Vacca or Cala di Volpe, bathed by crystal-clear waters and girdled by lush Mediterranean vegetation.
Starting from the 1970s, the Costa Smeralda Consortium has promoted a broad programme of tourist enhancement through the construction of marinas, hotels, apartment hotels, and tourist villages.
The whole area has been transformed: from wild and sparsely populated into a symbol of fashion, luxury and exclusive holidays, destination for thousands of tourists every year.
Olbia is the main town of the province of Gallura. It is located inside an inlet sheltered from the sea winds.
In recent years its development has been tightly linked to the tourist industry, which has been growing since the 1970s on the coast of Costa Smeralda.
The Gallura is a land rich in archaeological and historical remains. Nuraghi and giants’ tombs are numerous here, amongst which those in the area of Arzachena.
Of pecial naturalistic relevance is the archipelago of La Maddalena, site of the National Park and comprising four main islands (La Maddalena,Caprera, Santo Stefano, Spargi) along with other lesser ones, amongst which the renowned Budelli with its pink beach. Worth visiting is also the Compendio Garibaldino di Caprera (Garibaldi’s Museum), with the dwelling and personal belongings of the last years of life of the General.

Villa smeralda contributed a lot to our happiness.the place is fantastic, entering the villa with the fantastic vegatation, such a nice and colorful garden, was already very nice and good start. We easily settled in the apartment. It is convenient and practical. We spent a lot of time outside,in the gerrace,by the pool, walking up hillto enjoy the marvelous view of the countryside and the vegetacion. The villa suroundings are fantastic. The kids enjoyed counting the geckos, listening to the owls at night, watching the turtles walking in the garden, a fantastic experience for themwe visited many beaches and villages mostly in the north of the island and we always came back to the villa to rest and enjoy the peace of the place. Finally DOnato and David where really welcoming, helpful and nice. We did enjoy very much the villa and the island and we agreed that we will come back again for sure! Many thanks for all your effort to make our stay a pleasure, we really appreciate it Best regards Almudena

The one bedroom appartment with airco was clean and had enough space for 2 adults and 2 teenagers, one sleeping couch and one foldingbed in livingroom but you still had enough space ... Breakfast in the morning. Garden beautifull and swimmingpool clean and good size. Donato and David, keyholder were very helpfull. Till yet no WIFI but they are working on it, we went to the AUCHAN supermarket also for WIFI ;) Beach, 15-20 min, so you need a car! ou favo beach Porto Istana and Liscia Ruja (Porto Cervo). Nearest supermarket in Telti, approx. 5 min by car Thank you Vera, David and Donato, we had a great holiday in wonderfull Sardinia.

"Beautiful setting with lovely pool and well tended gardens"
The owner Vera was there to greet us with Donato the caretaker. They were both very friendly and helpful. The large villa is split into four separate apartments with shared pool and grounds but we were extremely lucky in that the other apartments weren't occupied at the time so we had the whole area and pool to ourselves. The pool was very clean and gardens well tended. The villa was perfectly functional although the furniture was a little old and well used. I noticed on other reviews that breakfast was served in the morning. Breakfast was not provided on our stay. You definitely need to hire a car as villa is out of town and there are some nice beaches and coastal areas to visit. I would recommend visiting Capo Testa which is just past Santa Teresa Gallura on north tip of Sardinia. Follow the path to rocks, it has beautiful views and stunning rock formations and coves. We enjoyed our holiday and would recommend.

"Perfect holiday retreat."
Villa Smeralda is a perfect. From the welcome we were given by Vera to the excellent service given by Donato, (who could not have been more helpful orf caring), we have had a marvellous holiday. The breakfast with perfect fresh rolls started each day. The Villas are near to so many beautiful beaches. Our favourite was Porto Istana(turn off at Murta Maria on SS125, just past airport.) The Villas were spacious, clean and lots of outdoor seating. The pool was immaculate and a really good size. Local shopping was easy at Telti and a huge supermarket "Aachen" near the airport fullfilled all needs. If you want a relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings this holiday is for you.

"A great holiday!!!"
We stayed at Villa Smeralda in September 2011. We love the secluded quiet location but it is within easy reach of beaches, shopping and nearest towns although a car is essential. It is a beautiful villa with all the things you need, it is well maintained by the owner Vera and keyholder David. They are very friendly and keep the villa clean and tidy. The pool is a really good size so you can swim lengths if you wish. The covered terrace which runs along the full side of the villa is lovely for being outside but not in the sun and has a lot of outdoor furniture: chairs, rocking chair, swing, tables, sun lounger. Each family member will find his favorite place. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Sardinia.
