Welcome home to Fava!

An unforgettable experience. Our goal is to make you feel that Fava is your own home and Santorini, your island.

The Fava Eco-Residences are housed in a group of splendid and unique captain houses of the mid 19th century, located at the highest point of the traditional village of Finikia. The architects and owners of the property started the rebuilt in the 1980's with love and devotion and they transformed the properties into a spacious and modern, though with respect to the original traditional form, complex of summer houses. Today, the villas offer their hospitality in individual fully furnished self-catering apartments of various size and aesthetics. They offer a sense of 19th century history, combined and harmonized with modern amenities and serviced by 24/7 concierge staff, located in the heart of the most picturesque and virgin from the tourist development village of the island. Fava is just a stone's throw from the magnificent Oia and away from the crowds and noise. During the reconstruction there were used methods following the bioclimatic sustainable vernacular architecture and materials which are eco-friendly with low embodied energy. All houses have wonderful views over the village, the famous sunset of the island and the Aegean Sea with the close by Ios, Sikinos and Folegandros islands on the horizon.

All houses have daily maid cleaning service and change of linen and towels every two days. The breakfast is included in the price. Every morning, a traditional basket with local organic delicacies such as rusks, homemade marmelade, thyme honey, butter, free range eggs, Santorinian tomatoes, cheese from Cyclades and a seasonal fruit will be delivered to your door.

Gaia Suite is a traditional luxurious and majestic old style cave-type individual apartment of 68 m2 fitted with all the modern amenities, with 5 meter high vaulted ceilings. The apartment can accommodate up to 4 people in a large unified Canava hall, it has one double bed, one single bed and a sofa bed as well as a spacious separate autonomous bathroom with shower, a comfortable fully equipped kitchen and access to a totally breathtaking yard with 180 degrees Sea and Sunset View. The house is furnished with 19th century wooden antiques and paintings depicting the history of the island. The stone fireplace, the large outdoor vine and the grape squeezing area where the previous century's occupants used to prepare the wine is kept as it originally was. The internal temperature varies from 21 to 23 Degrees Celsius throughout the summer period due to the bioclimatic vernacular construction of the residence. In the house you will also find 24-7 Wi-Fi access, plasma sat TV, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, CD player with Classical Music CD's and multilingual Books.

Our concierge will be your private guide, whatever you might want to ask or need assistance to do.

A traditional handmade sweet will welcome you on your own Santorini house.

Seize the day.

Location description from owner

The South Aegean region

A place blessed by God and nature and yet so troubled by fate. Magnificent and wild, Santorini is unique throughout the world for its stunning natural beauty, result of the volcanic eruption of the 16th century BC. A place like a chest of rock on which the whitewashed villages hang like acrobats on the edge of the cliffs and on the other side lay beautiful black volcanic beaches and crystal clear deep waters. Apart from its incomparable beauty, the island offers relaxing moments in authentic Cycladic environment, exceptional gastronomic choices, rich nightlife and a unique study the ancient culture that has a history of over 3,500 years.

Oia

During the 18th and 19th century, the village of Oia experienced the prosperity of the naval merchandise. In Finikia lived the farmers who worked in the valley and vineyards, but also the captains of Oia had their summer homes and canavas. In the early 20th century there were over 150 canavas that were left off after the war and the devastating earthquake of 1956 brought the village to abandon. Since the mid 1970's slowly and with patience, new residents began to return and to reconstruct the old houses on permanent or holiday homes. Today, Finikia is a small, well-preserved traditional village now united with Oia with just 10 minutes walking distance. You can stay and experience the feeling of tranquility and authenticity, visiting the beautiful beaches and vineyards in the vicinity of the village. Here you will meet only locals. The Finikia Village still creates the feeling of the good old Greece of the mid 20th century. The people here leave their houses doors open all day and night, are welcoming everyone who visits their area with warmth and it is so peaceful and tranquil, that during the night you hear only the wind and nothing else. Its spacious terraces make you feel like you fly over the Aegean Sea. On a good visibility day, you can see at least 10 other islands on the horizon. it is the balcony of the Aegean Sea.On the same time it is located only 5 minutes walking distance from the heart of Oia, totally avoiding the massive crowds of tourists. It is a place blessed by god and nature.

Like last year we have to say, that this is a wonderfull place to stay. It is quiet with a large view and the sun downing is amazing! The host was wonderfull - can't be better!

“Excellent”

I spent 2 weeks in this excellent place. The contact with the owner before starting the trip has been very good. The place is very clean, and proofed to be as quiet as I expected. Finika is like a maze with beautiful houses. The sunset from the place is great and I have enjoyed many of them. The hike along the rim to Thira is among the most stunning I have ever done. Instead of taking the bus back to Oia, I hiked back after a good beer. I would come back again sometime.

“Beautiful apartment in good location”

Reviewed 11 Jun 2014

The apartment is beautiful, clean and well kitted out with reliable wifi. A great place to relax and kick back with lovely views if you fancy a day chilling. There is a choice of tavernas within a short walk and Oia only a 10 minute walk away. If you don't get a vehicle the bus runs regularly with a bus stop just a short stroll away. The staff at the apartments are great and gave us a warm welcome and even made us some yummy pancakes.

“Amazing apartment”

Reviewed 27 May 2014

Wonderful apartment, great space, light and layout. Lovely touches such as fresh flowers, antique furniture and lots of unusual artefacts. We also had a mid week full linen change and some nice little treats during the week. The managers of the property could not do enough to help and direct us. The location was not on the caldera but only 10/15 mins walk to Oria and the caldera on the flat ( mainly) in a pretty village location with great sea and sunset views, it was also a very peaceful location which is something you do not get near the caldera due to traffic noise. It was only a 3 minute walk to a nice taverna/ restaurant which was open for lunch and dinner every day.
