Location description from owner

The England region

Rutland is a hidden gem whose motto is multo in parvo (much in little), Englands smallest county with the largest expanse of man made reservoir. It is said to be the Cotswolds without the crowds. There are many charming villages to investigate with their stone buildings and numerous fine churches. It is a wonderful area for walking and Cycling. The Market towns of Oakham, Uppingham and Stanford have excellent public schools.

Local Events:

- Rutland Water is famous for its Birdfair.

- The Vitruvian is a wonderful cycling event.

- The Burghley Horse trails are a yearly event.

Oakham

The Green, Holiday Cottage Rutland, situated in the village of Market Overton stands on high ground and the village has wide views overlooking the surrounding Rutland countryside from many footpaths. Red Kites soar in the valley over the grazing sheep. In this village many of the houses are of local stone. There are still stocks and a whipping post on the village green.

Market Overton itself has a pub, The Black Bull serving good food and a well-stocked community shop selling locally sourced produce, fine wines and cheeses, and news.

“A Real Gem”

Reviewed 22 Sep 2016

We stayed here for a week whilst moving house, just so we had somewhere as a bit of a 'bolthole' so the decorators and plumbers could do some work on our new purchase. This cottage is so well equipped and comfortable, with such a pretty conservatory/diner to the rear overlooking the garden. We really enjoyed returning in the evening after working on the house, or during the day just for a break. The owner, Pat, is so lovely and friendly. We were treated to a 'welcome pack' of local bread and jam, plus biscuits and a lovely bottle of wine. Everything is provided to ensure your stay is perfect.

We are so pleased that the cottage gave you the chance to relax somewhere comfortable in your time of upheaval.
