Sunset Beach Haven, to coin one of our Guests, is "seriously waterfront" - you just can't get much closer than this to the beach and ocean - it is located directly on famous West Beach and greets each day with beautiful views of ships, seals, otters, and occasionally whales playing in the water, and of the snowy peaks of the Olympic Mountains rising in the distance across the waters of Admiralty Inlet with 180' plus views out to the sound and mountains. Breathtaking!

To the east, watch the sun rise over the Swantown Lake Wildlife Refuge. Every window has a view of the water, but the Living Room is west facing to capture the warmth of the afternoon sun on a large private deck in fair weather, or inspire romance watching storm-churned waves while comfortably seated inside.

Evenings can be spent curled up with a book on our NEW matching high quality Macy's microfiber couch and oversized chair, or playing games and doing puzzles with friends and family, or watching a movie on the HDTV. New cable and Wifi (with two dedicated lines) have been added, along with a NEW ROKU and complimentary Netflix and Amazon Prime. We also have a DVD player with modest library (you won't lack for something to watch besides the scenery, if that's what you'd like to do).

Wheel our gas grill out to barbecue, and end the evening with a camp fire in our outdoor fire pit. (Wood is usually available.) And don't forget the sunsets - some of the most spectacular ones you could ever imagine. Or, you may prefer an evening out with great dining options in Coupeville, Oak Harbor and beyond.

The house sleeps up to 5 comfortably, and generally is best for groups 2-4, with a pillow-top Queen Bed in the Master, and two NEW plush-top twins in the second bedroom. There is a NEW QUEEN sleeper sofa. We even provide a portable crib and high chair for infants.

Action seekers may launch their own kayaks and paddle boards to test their skills on the exposed beaches of Whidbey Island's west shore, or make the 10 minute trip to launch in world famous Penn Cove for a calmer experience. Take the opportunity to explore the hiking at Ebey's Landing, and bike the trails of "The Kettles" exploring a landscape scoured by glaciers thousands of years ago. Or, simply stroll the beach for miles at low to mid-tide directly in front of the house. Joseph Whidbey State Park is just a10 minute stroll north by foot up the same beach.

The historic waterfront town of Coupeville, can be reached in about 15 minutes by car. Oak Harbor, to the east, is about 5-7 minutes away for major shopping amenities and restaurants. Deception Pass Bridge and State Park are about 15 minutes north. To the south lies Fort Ebey, Fort Casey, Ebey's Landing and the nearby Coupeville Ferry (departing from Keystone Harbor) with service to historic Port Townsend. Greenbank Winery, antiques shops, galleries, and the town of Langley are further afield.

Note that Sunset Beach Haven has been updated since 2012 with new finishes, appliances, dishes, cookware, and furnishings. We have also added cable and Wifi. Wiring, and plumbing have also been updated and insulation has been added as well. New radiant heaters keep the house comfortable year-round, even in the winter storms.

Getting around

Whidbey Island is mostly rural forests inter-spaced with farmlands. There is private airport shuttle to Sea-Tac Airport, and a transit system on the island run by Island County, but a car is highly recommended for ease of access. Consider bringing a bicycle as well. Peter's first visit to Whidbey was during a summer vacation during high school when he rode my bicycle through the northern half of the island on the way to the San Juan Islands. It's fun to bring bikes but a car is recommended.

Interaction with guest

We live north of Seattle, about 2 hours from the property. We make our private cell phone numbers available and are usually reachable to answers questions and respond quickly to issues or concerns. We have a network of helpers on the island available if we need more assistance at the property. Prior to check-in, we send substantial information to help plan your visit and how to access the property, house rules etc. We want our home to be your home during your stay, just show up and enjoy! Please note we do have one external motion-activity security camera.

To help us keep our cleaning fees reasonable, before departure please:
1) take out the trash - secure tightly in the bins by the street
2) start a load of towels in the wash (not required, but helps, thank you).
3) wash your dishes - leaving in drying rack is fine
4) remove perishable food from fridge.
4) return any furniture including portacrib to where you found it
5) close and lock window and doors
6) strip the sheets from the sleeper sofa if used
7) replace the lockbox key to the lockbox
