Location description from owner

The Galicia region

Galicia - a green and pleasant land of a 1000 rivers, low mountains, lakes and endless beaches of sparkling white sand. A place with strong Celtic links, pirate legends and mystical witches tales. A place where old meets new, Roman bridges, dolman remains, stunning medieval cities combined with ultra-modern architecture. Traditional occupations like shellfish collecting and farming are found in every coastal village.

Fresh, local produce is plentiful and cheap. Often compared by visitors to Ireland or Cornwall for its traditions and scenery. The mirco-climate of this region produces 4 distinctive seasons with their own individual beauty. Temperatures never fall below 0*C in winter and summer averages 28*C.

O Freixo

In addition to the beaches and fishing villages that dot the coastline, most guests enjoy a visit to Muros and Noia the two medieval towns on the estuary and the cities of Santiago de Compostela and A Coruna. Watersports and outdoor pursuit lovers have plenty of choice in the region; the Costa da Morte boasts the big surf&;. Sailing, kayaking and windsurfing can be enjoyed from the local beach and kitesurfing nearby; the Ria is home to the world kitesurfing campion Abel Lago. Inland is the Iberian peninsula's largest 'extreme sports' centre - microlight flying being the most popular activity. Varied sea or river fishing activities are also available. “Low quality of finish”

Reviewed 26 Jun 2016

The property is in an interesting area with great views from shared balcony/patio area, no views from apartment. We found the apartment itself had a low quality of furnishings and didn't feel very homely. Grounds need work doing and parking area very poor. Very helpful owner and easy to book with her.

“What a find”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2013

A lovely old converted barn in Galicia was our base for 10 days. The apartment was clean and comfortable and the outside area was just great. There was plenty of seating in both the sun and the shade, and the views from the terrace across the water were amazing. A great place to enjoy a glass of the local wine - delicious! The nearby beach was good and the town easily accessible and we enjoyed some excellent food in Freixo. The host was always available and very good at recommending local restaurants and beaches. We were very impressed with how unspoilt (and cheap) the area was - we loved it and will definitely return.

“The perfect 'get away' holiday in lovely surroundings”

Reviewed 6 Jul 2011

Just a 10 minute cycle ride away and we could pick our own mussels off the rocks at the beach. We hired bikes from the owners and explored this lovely natural area. Wonderful fresh seafood at the local bars/restaurants and the people so friendly and helpful. We had the beach virtually to ourselves. Weather not too hot but sunny and bright at this time of year. We visited many coves up towards Finisterre. No foreign tourists here and in the summer only Spanish. This area of spain is still unspoilt and unknown. We loved every minute of our stay including the great barbeque we had in the garden with the owners Allyson, Warren and their sons.

“A quiet break away from it all.”

Reviewed 6 Jul 2011

Well equipped accomodation in a quiet location. Our hosts were very welcoming and came to meet us from the bus to ensure we got off at the right stop. Ideally located for country walks, and trips to the beach.

“Fabulous, friendly and fun....”

Reviewed 6 Jul 2011

Great welcome reception and the accomodation was impeccable. Just loved the fresh seafood , salads and wine served at the little local restaurants . The beach was safe for the children and within easy walking distance.... Beautiful countryside.......... We will be back.!
