Le Moulin d'Echanfray is a completely renovated 18th-century watermill set on a quiet country lane in the verdant valley of the River Charentonne. Tastefully done out and supremely comfortable, the mill is laid out over three floors and has five bedrooms fitted with top quality hotel beds and Ralph Lauren bedding, three shower rooms and a downstairs cloakroom, a good-sized fully-equipped kitchen/dining room complete with the mill's original interior water wheel, and a spacious, thoroughly relaxing drawing room with triple aspect windows and a stable door overlooking the weir and river. Outside, guests have a large private garden right on the river and a pontoon perfect for leisurely sundowners at the water's edge.

Le Moulin d'Echanfray is perfect for families (or two families holidaying together), groups of friends, reunions, wedding parties, and family Christmases or New Year celebrations. Bikers are welcome (secure parking is available).

The Mill has been carefully restored and is designed to combine up-to-date comforts with traditional character, and many original features - including the original water wheel - have been retained. Tastefully done out and supremely comfortable, the Mill has a lovely spacious and airy feel and is beautifully furnished and superbly equipped.

On the ground floor, a stable door leads into the entrance hall and a spacious kitchen/dining room, perfect for leisurely breakfasts and convivial dinners beside the water wheel. On this level there's also a cloakroom and a twin room with an ensuite shower, ideal for those who find stairs difficult to negotiate.

Upstairs, the gorgeous drawing room has triple aspect windows and a stable door overlooking the river, and is a lovely restful space, perfect for relaxing, playing games or curling up with a good book or film. Off the drawing room is a shower room and toilet and a good-sized twin room, prettily done out in toile de jouy fabrics and painted furniture.

Under the eaves on the third floor there are three further bedrooms, a double with ensuite facilities, a twin and a single (an extra bed can also be added), all lovely and light with high sloping ceilings and comfortable hotel beds.

Le Moulin d'Echanfray is superbly located in the beautiful Normandy countryside, surrounded by pastureland and set right on the river. Though peaceful, the Mill is not isolated and is within walking distance of the typical Norman village of Notre-Dame du Hamel, which has a shop and a bar, and just a few minutes from La Marigotière, an excellent restaurant recommended in the Michelin Guide Rouge.

The Mill is situated near two large towns Bernay and Orbec, Bernay has a large market on a staurday and there is a train station which takes you to Paris in 1 hour and 30 minutes. We have lots of families that stay with us and have a short break to eurodisney either by train of drive for 2 hours 30 mins and then return for a relaxing stay by the river.

There are lots of different cycle rides nearby and beautiful walks down by the rivers.

“wonderfull conversion of the old mill retaining all the original mechanics -fascinating.”

Reviewed 3 Aug 2016

This is heaven on earth a beautifully crafted architectural conversion set near the river and a playing field. The house and river itself are the holiday we spent almost all our time there the children did not want to go touring. gave us time to relax and enjoy the surroundings whilst the children and teenagers were happy to play.

Thank you very much for your lovely review we are so glad you enjoyed your stayed.

“Wonderful stay at a beautiful Mill on the river”

Reviewed 24 Apr 2015

We really enjoyed our stay. Wonderful, warm sunshine for almost the entire time we were there, which allowed us to take full advantage of the riverside garden. We spent many an hour relaxing and the children loved the weir and fishing in the river. The area is great! Quite rural but this means beautiful scenery and pleasant walks. There are plenty of villages nearby, each with the classic bars, restaurants and French bakers. The patisserie here is really good - I never got tired of the delicious tarts and pastries, or indeed the freshest bread every day that tastes nothing like the stuff you get in the supermarket. We took the children to Cerza Zoo, which is not far and they had a great time with a very safari-like setup. We also took a trip to the coast one day which is not far. All-in-all a very enjoyable and relaxing week spent away from the relentless pace of things back in the UK.
