The Western Cape region
The Cape is an area which experiences a Mediterranean climate - warm summers and cool winters. The rainy season is during the winter months but often one is fortunate to enjoy clear skies and warm days during the winter season.
A visit to the Victoria and Albert Waterfront in Cape Town is a must (40 km from Noordhoek), as well as a trip up Table Mountain in the cable car. For the more energetic, a walk up Lion's Head is challenging and rewarding, particularly when one reaches the top from where there is a 360 degree view of Cape Town and the Southern Peninsula. A visit to the world renowned Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens should also be on all visitors' lists to Cape Town. The 528 hectare Botanical Gardens, situated approximately 28 km from Noordhoek, are nestled on the eastern slopes of Table mountain and are famous for their magnificent display of Cape Indigenous fynbos flora and natural forest.
The Cape Point Nature reserve is a very popular destination for visitors to Cape Town. The entrance to the reserve is 13 km from the centre of Noordhoek (10 km from our holiday villa) and once at Cape Point, one can take the funicular up to the lighthouse and enjoy the glorious view of both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. There is also an excellent restaurant at Cape Point which is to be recommended.
Further afield, one can enjoy a day out in the wine-lands, sampling the excellent Cape Wines in the Stellenbosch, Swellendam, Paarl or Franschoek areas. The Stellenbosch wine farms are very popular since they are only about a 60 km drive from Noordhoek.
Still further afield, but well worth the trip, one can drive up the Namaqualand coast (West coast of the Cape) to see the countless fields of exquisite Namaqualand Daisies which bloom from August to October.
Just up the road from Noordhoek is Simon's Town which is an historic town that grew up as a result of the naval base which was originally established here by the British. The harbour is still an important landmark where South African naval ships dock and leisure yachts are anchored.
Within a couple of hours from Noordhoek there are several game reserves where you can take a safari trip and see the Big Five, and many more animals, in the wild.
The Long Beach Shopping Mall is within walking distance of the villa. Monkey Island and Noordhoek village have a choice of restaurants and bars with Monkey Island having breath taking views particularly at sunset.
Mountains and nature conservation areas stretch 50 kilometres from Table Mountain in the city itself down to Cape Point and there are many hundreds of hiking, walking and climbing routes to suit everyone from families with young children and elderly folk to the most ambitious climbers. Mountain biking is very popular in the area, there are numerous bike trails in the mountains and bikes can be hired quite cheaply.
The nearby wine-routes of Constantia, Stellenbosch and Franchoek offer not only wine-tasting but spectacular scenery and excellent dining.
The area is a bird-watchers paradise with many coastal and inland lagoons areas noted for the variety of local and migratory species.
Dining out is very inexpensive in comparison to UK, US and European prices and there are very many excellent restaurants and cuisines to choose from.

"Amazing villa in an amazing location"
Stayed in this villa in December 2013 and couldn't have asked for more. The villa is huge with everything you could need. The garden with the covered patio and lovely pool had such a beautiful view overlooking the lake and chapmans peak. Would definitely stay here again and Highly recommend it to anybody. Ideal location.

"Bliss just outside Cape Town, with sunsets to die for"
Stayed with three kids (6,8 & 10) and couple of friends and had a wonderful time, so much space in the living areas, large bedrooms and double sized bathrooms. We spent most of our time on outside by the poor, BBQs most evenings watching the bird life, including a kingfisher. We could not be better placed just 35 minutes from Cape Town and 10mins from Simons Town. We were well received by Inga, who looked after us so well. Highly recommended for a familu, or friends, will be coming back!
