Location description from owner

The Aviemore and the Cairngorms region

The Cairngorms National Park is a living, working landscape with wild land at its heart.

Larger than the Lake District and twice the size of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, the park contains some of the best wildlife habitats in the UK and its ancient pine forests, arctic mountain tops, lochs, rivers and moorlands are home to a quarter of the nation's threatened species.

Nowhere else in the British Isles can visitors enjoy such a collection of outstanding environments in one place in such a variety of different ways. Regardless of age or interest the park and its communities offer something for everybody, from castles, distilleries and gentle strolls to fun parks, quad bikes and extreme sports.

Newtonmore

Newtonmore offers the visitor a wide range of activities within the village lying at the southern end of the Spey Valley in the Cairngorms National Park. Newtonmore is at the heart of the Scottish Highlands and is the original Geographical Centre of Scotland making it the ideal place for long or short breaks or to explore the surrounding area much of which has also been used in the filming of Monarch of the Glen.

Absolutely loved it. Had read reviews prior to going about low ceilings and shower head so was abut apprehensive I would be spending a wee like a half shut knife.. I'm 6ft never had a prob. My hubby has knee probs and found coming down the steep stairs backwards, as suggested, was much easier. The open fire was delightful with loads of logs cut to keep it going. The hot tub was just what was required after my long walks with spectacular views. The fire pit outside was fab, sat at night making toast. Scared oot our skins right enough with the pheasant chapping at the window to get fed It was lovey and clean and even dressing gowns for the hot tub were supplied It was just so peaceful and tranquil we will be devinatly be back next year. Only down side was the snow gates never got shut and we never got snowed in. Maybe next time.

“The Perfect Honeymoon Retreat!”

Reviewed 30 Dec 2013

We stayed in Pipers Cottage for the second leg of our Scottish Honeymoon. A perfect secluded getaway with all you need to kick back and relax. With all the added extras of hot tub, sky movies, the local Dalwhinnie whiskey distillery and very handy Co-op 10 miles away we were all set for a chilled few days in the highlands. The cottage was clean, warm and cosy. The wood burning open fire and electric heaters for the main bedroom were a perfect combination. We were very thankful for the prompt return of our deposit and all of the admin leading up to our stay was very clear and instructions left for us explained very well, we had no need to contact Matthew during our stay as everything we needed to know we were already aware of. I would recommend this cottage and Laggan to others as it is very good distance and an easy drive from Edinburgh (about 2 hours) we hired a car from Edinburgh airport, again easy peasy! A beautiful week in the most idyllic of settings.

“Great trip to Scotland”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2013

Our group of four persons visited the cottage in late march and we stayed for eleven days. We really enjoyed our time at the cottage and found it to be really comfortable. Everything in the cottage was clean and in top condition. The fireplace and the hot tub (wonderful after a day of hiking) were great and the kitchen equipment exceeded our expectations. The surrounding landscape is lovely and nice for walks. We did some great hiking tours despite the snow. There is a nice café down the street, too. Although a car comes in handy for getting some supplies and access to a wider range of activities. The booking and everything related to it was easy to be done even though we travelled from a foreign country. Pipers cottage is one of the best cottages I've ever visited and I would definitely recommend it.

“A cottage with a view to please the soul”

Reviewed 21 Sep 2013

This is a lovely and well set cottage, a perfect hideaway, in a beautiful setting. The hot tub is the icing on an already rich cake and the views all round are superb. The kitchen is well stocked, the sofa is very comfy and no complaints about the beds...I slept well. The stairs are steep so advise some caution on those, but all in all I had a lovely holiday here. The garden is lovely and surprisingly large. Toward the bottom of the road is a great little cafe that does great tea & cakes as well as selling some interesting items and the Newtonmore is just a couple of miles down the road. I would recommend this property for family with older rather than very young children, only because the stairs are so steep. It suits couples or solo travellers, or certainly 4 adults, and if I had a well trained dog in my life, I suspect it would have a great holiday too as there an endless supply of great walking to be had.

“cutest cottage but with a modern twist, cosy romantic its just perfect”

wanted cosy cottage with log fire and hot tub and boy did we get what we were looking for and more.it was lovely and warm, food supplies incase you get snowed in, just need to replace, great idea Matthew, and the little things like biscuits and tea coffee sugar all added to it,plenty extra bedding if needed which we did not, even electric blankets. went for quiet weekend and enjoyed so much.great selection of dvds for in the evening cosied up on the couch with the fire roaring, lovely walks from the cottage and just minutes drives away takes you to so many sites, loch laggan looked amazing, surprised at how much of it was actually frozen,i could go on and on but if you are looking for something very quiet and a bit special than this is it, anyway enough said i need to go and book for my next break away in april at PIPERS COTTAGE
