Location description from owner

The Scotland region

In addition to catering for the general holidaymaker year round, we are in an ideal position to offer specialist sporting holidays. With over 10 miles of privately owned salmon and trout fishing, we can offer unrivalled opportunities for the visiting angler at moderate cost. Galloway has 26 Golf courses several are nearby including Southerness, all are attractively situated with many amidst spectacular scenery.

The Birdwatcher will be delighted with the variety of species and R.S.P.B. reserves. The Solway is famous for its waders. Sea fishing is very productive with some of the best in Britain in nearby Luce Bay. Rough shooting, wildfowling and stalking can be arranged.

Sailing, windsurfing, hill walking, miles of horse riding within the Galloway Forrest Park, curling and bowling can all be enjoyed. Whether it is a holiday for the sporting minded or those just seeking relaxation, we are confident you will have an enjoyable stay and want to return.

Newton Stewart

For the non-fisherman Dumfries and Galloway has an abundance of days out and activities on offer that appeal to everyone with attractions such as the award winning Cream O'Galloway where children can enjoy the indoor and outdoor adventure playground as well as see around a working dairy farm that produces fantastic ice cream. The Gem Rock museum at Creetown, Kirroughtree visitor centre, which has miles of Forrest walks, and mountain bike trails along with a children's adventure play area as well as a café for once you've worked up an appetite. Kirkcudbright is an attractive harbour town situated on the banks of the River Dee. The town is of historic and architectural interest with its ancient High Street, Tolbooth Art Centre, Stewartry Museum and numerous galleries. Long frequented by artists, it was home to the renowned artist EA Hornel, one of the "Glasgow Boys", who lived nearby in Broughton House, now in care of the National Trust for Scotland. Kirkcudbright also boasts its very own wildlife park 'The Galloway Wildlife Park' which aims to establish a conservation-breeding center for small animals, to conserve wildlife. The local swimming pools in Kirkcudbright, Newton Stewart and Stranraer are all ideal for keeping children and adults entertained.

Dumfries and Galloway is the ideal location for nature lovers and those wanting to visit the historic sites that are scattered throughout the region! (Such as St Ninians Cave and Whithorn Priory) The area boasts largely unspoilt landscapes with over 200 miles of some of the most breath-taking coastline in Scotland. Lovely coastal walks can be found at the Mull of Galloway and Garlieston as well as further over to the east at Balcary and Rascarral Bay. The unspoilt nature of the countryside's rolling hills and rivers makes Galloway a pleasure regardless of the weather, or the time of year that you visit.

For those that enjoy some more action there are many activities that you can try your hand at from off road 4 X 4 driving at Wigtown, mountaineering and abseiling and mountain biking in the Galloway Forrest Park or horse riding along the many country lanes and beaches. The region boasts excellent watersports facilities at Loch Ken on the edge of the Galloway Forrest Park that offers the opportunity to try out windsurfing, water skiing and wakeboarding from fully qualified instructors
