A fabulous wood burning stove in the lounge ensures a warm welcome awaits guests whatever the season. Due to its history and age the property is naturally quirky which adds to its charm with some limited height space on the first floor.

Most countryside pursuits are available here or close by, including walking, cycling, mountain biking, fishing, golf, pony trekking, tennis, canoeing, shooting, exploring and much more. If you want to visit Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh is less than an hours drive away or why not take the newly opened train line from Tweedbank station (5 minute drive from Heron Cottage, with free parking!) - this fabulous service delivers you right into the heart of the city in around 45 minutes. “Excellent cottage - very clean”

Reviewed 15 Oct 2016

Very clean - comfortable - near to our friends who live around the corner and who recommended it - near to excellent fishing

“Smart and stylish self catering accomodation.”

Reviewed 9 Oct 2011

We enjoyed this cottage, recently converted when we rented, and beautifully done out to a very high standard. The decor was a nice change from the usual 'folksy'style. We observed that it would not perhaps suit very tall people ustairs as the bedrooms are in the roof space, but we liked the bright and simply furnished bedrooms. The area was quiet and peaceful, and it was an easy wander down the lanes to the River Tweed and the nearby Roman camps. It wasa shame that there are neither shops or pubs in Newsteads, but it is not too far to walk or cycle to Melrose along a traffic free railyway line.

“200 Year old cottage with update facilities & interesting places to visit.”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2011

We loved the cosy atmosphere of HERON COTTAGE & the trendy decor made for a relaxing stay. The cottage was spotlessly clean & easy to live in as there is a well equipped kitchen, a bathroom with bath & shower, heated towel rail & twin wash bowls. The lounge is a good size with TV & comfy seating. Best of all is the wood burning stove especially at this time of year. The bedrooms are stylish & comfy even though the ceilings are low. There is so much to do in the surrounding area, river walks, good eating places in Melrose, a walkable mile away & lots of historic buildings to visit. We found it easy to park & ride for an outing to Edinburgh. We found shopkeepers helpful & service in pubs & restaurants good.

“cute, cosy and quiet cottage”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2011

Loved our stay - delightful cottage, cute bedrooms with shutter windows, big lounge room with large flat screen tv, beautiful robes provided for baths, new bathroom, central accommodation in Newstead and within easy walking to Melrose, river and country walks and close to many fabulous historic towns.
