Four hundred years old and retaining a wealth of original features Towan Vean is nevertheless comfortable, homely, well-equipped and close to beaches. The sea views may be enjoyed whilst enjoying your early morning cup of tea in bed and also from the balcony whilst relaxing in the hammock. Fishing boats and leisure craft sail in and out of the historic harbour and local children often make sport leaping off the harbour walls into the clear turquoise waters below. Just below the house is the coastal path which leads to the harbour in one direction and to the headland in the other; the facilities of the town are also within easy walking distance (the Harbour Restaurant is just 100 yards). There are 11 beaches in the Newquay area all offering golden sands and clear waters - no wonder Newquay is such a popular family resort.

The property benefits from an unusually long 29ft reception area with two original fire places, a very spacious utility area with a washing machine and a downstairs cloakroom.

There are two balconies overlooking the sea and a small, private garden. The house has gas central heating and wooden floors throughout and benefits from its own parking. This property is truly one-of-a-kind.

“Great location - just needs a different manager”

My wife and I took a friend on holiday and chose Towan Vean because of the location and the website. WISH I HADN'T. There is only one balcony not two as stated on the website. After pointing this out to the owner I was told that the website is not misleading????????. Having been given permission to use the log burner we found out it was faulty and filled the rooms with smoke and carbon dioxide - NO DETECTOR IN THE PROPERTY - this could have been fatal had we not been alert to the situation, the central heating was not working properly so the house was cold, boiler had no pressure and all the radiators needed bleeding, I sorted it with the help of the caretaker then when I complained I got told I should not have touched the Central heating. The thermostatic shower was broken and would only reach luke warm temperature - only one bathroom in the property, no instructions for the oven - took us over half an hour to get it to come on and cook something. When we did complain we got told the caretaker had said we were very cautious guests, that is when we did get a response. We arrived on the Saturday, complained that night about the cold and the wood burner - didn't get a response until after I had to ask for our deposit back some TWO WEEKS after the holiday - If I didn't ask for the deposit back they wouldn't have sent it as they were waiting for me to send them my bank details - a fact I only knew about after I had asked for the deposit back. I never got an apology because the owner seemed to think I was complaining to get my money back - just glad I was able to come away from the holiday alive. THIS IS NOT A CARING OWNER WHO WANTS PEOPLE TO ENJOY THE BEAUTY OF HER PROPERTY - THE PROPERTY IS A CASH COW FOR HER AND SHE IS NOT INTERESTED IN ITS UPKEEP.

Owner's reply: It saddens me to see such a negative review of our own family holiday home, which continues to be enjoyed by so many other families and individuals as it has done over the years. We, as a family, are often taking long or short breaks at Towan Vean, our one and only Cornish holiday home. Over the years, we have carried out an enormous amount of renovation and improvement works. The popularity of our holiday home has meant we always have work to do and we never neglect this. We would never have our own family members and friends, much less paying guests, stay in the house if there were any health risks at all. We have a caretaker available to attend any emergencies at short notice, a very reliable plumber to resolve any heating or water issues which may arise and we are always contactable by telephone during office hours. The complaints we received, back in October last year, came in a torrent by email but only after the deposit transfer had been arranged. We had not been contacted directly at all prior to this, only the caretaker had been called and attended the house during this particular week in October. The comments left in our guestbook for this holiday reflected the complete opposite, stating 'the holiday was exactly what we needed and we hope to come back again soon'. If you did return to the house, you would be pleased to see that there is a carbon monoxide alarm fitted near the log burner, which is fully operational. In regards to the other complaints made: 'There is only one balcony not two as stated on the website' - We have one small balcony and one large roof terrace, both overlooking the sea and providing outside space for each of the two bedrooms. 'only one bathroom in the property' - there has always been just one large family bathroom with a walk-in shower and a separate, free standing, roll top bath, which I should mention also has a shower attachment - should there be any issues with the walk-in shower. There is an additional guest W.C. on the ground floor also. 'no instructions for the oven' - there is a wall switch next to the hob which turns the electric oven on and then there is a manual button on the front of the oven which must be pressed before the oven will function. We have never had anyone complain about the operation of the oven before but clear instructions are provided within the manual, which is located in the top drawer next to the oven. This house is not and has never been a cash cow, quite the opposite, the maintenance costs run much higher than the mere £500 weekly rate paid in October. We are sorry that you do not have better holiday memories in our unique 400 year old Cornish house which has been such a joy for so many.
