Very Good

“Quay House, Newport, County Mayo, Ireland.”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2017

I really only need to say that we have already booked Quay House for the same two weeks next year. That would say it all but it wldn't tell you about the warm, comfortable and homely place it is to come back to after a long day fishing on Loch Furnace, Burrischoole or the chickens who I got so attached to as they gave us each a fresh beautiful egg every day. I even baked each of them a small potato each evening which they loved!!! The king size bed ensured we slept well each night. So many of the places we have stayed in the past, when coming to Furnace to fish don't have a big bed and when one is used to a big bed at home it's very hard to sleep in a 4'6" double which is what most self catering holiday homes have. The other thing that must be said is that there were no rules written in an exercise book in one of the kitchen drawers which is so often the case in self catering properties. Well, I never found any rules anywhere anyway. Kathleen met us with fresh bread, butter and scones and showed us round and showed us how to work things (oven, heating etc etc) which made us feel very welcome. We have been coming to Ireland for many many years and haven't ever stayed in a place, like Quay House, and somewhere we would have wanted to come back to. Well done Kathleen & thank you and see you next year. Teisha Houghton & Tim Aldiss.

“Lovely comfortable home in picturesque location”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2016

Extremely well equipped home from home and the freshly baked bread & scones on arrival are a welcome touch. The location overlooking the Quay & within a short level walk to the town is excellent. The rear courtyard & gardens are extremely pleasant and have the benefit of table & chairs, sitting areas and BBQ. Kathleen is a pleasure to deal with & makes the stay stress free. The only small suggestion I would make is to turn the smallest bedroom into a single room with a chest of drawers for storage. Thankyou Kathleen will be booking again.
