Accommodation: I the south of the World Heritage Lake District National Park, Eller How House is the self-contained West wing of an architect designed Regency Country house. There are many quirky and unusual features, from the ornate plasterwork in the sitting room to the collection of 'heads' holding up the ceiling in the master bedroom. Follow the winding paths through the private woods or climb up to the top of the fell with its magnificent views.

The accommodation comprises; Ground floor-large entrance hall, kitchen /dining room, utility room with washer/dryer and freezer. Double bedroom with ensuite shower room with W.C. and basin.

Twin bedroom with en suite shower room, basin and W.C. Inner hall with stairs up to first floor landing with double doors to drawing room with marble open fireplace and decorative plasterwork.

Double bedroom with veranda. Ensuite bathroom with freestanding cast iron roll top bath, W.C. and basin.

Stay at Eller How House and you won't want to leave, there is plenty of space for families and friends to relax. Come to enjoy a Winter Week-end or Mid-Week stay. Enjoy the days walking or sightseeing returning to an evening in front of the log fire in the comfortable sitting room. Book ahead for a week long family summer holiday, there is always plenty to do in the Lakes. Weekly lets are usually Friday or Saturday 4pm to Friday or Saturday 10am. Easter (school holidays) to end of September. We can be more flexible about dates at other times. Week-end lets are usually Friday 4pm to Monday 10am. (excluding Autumn half term, Christmas and New Year). Sleeps up to six plus baby/small child.

Up to two well behaved dogs (£20.00 each).We allow up to two well-behaved dogs for a small extra charge and ask owners to clear up after their pets and be aware that there is livestock in the adjoining fields. We need your assurance that your dog(s) are insured as we can't accept liability for any damage caused by your pet.

The single beds are zip-link and can be joined if requested to make Super King size bed (please state on booking). Please request stairgate for toddlers (or dogs). Please note that the sitting room is upstairs and there are steps indoors. Please note-ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING AT THIS PROPERTY Visitor Notes: care must be taken near the unfenced lake and low balcony on the veranda. The woodland walks can be steep and slippery in places. No fireworks please. GIFT VOUCHERS for Surprise Breaks are available. Winter breaks are popular and there always plenty to do in the Lake District whatever the season.

Private courtyard parking for up to three cars (we can accommodate more please ask) . Terraced garden area to the front of the property with garden table and six chairs. Grassed meadow area to the front for visitors to use. There are woodland walks, trees to climb and rocks to scramble over. We have a summer house with sea views and lots of picnic spots. We have a wonderful display of spring bulbs and flowers and many of our regular visitors come each autumn for the woodland colours.

Getting around

Although it is convenient to use a car to get around in the Lakes we do have guests who arrive by train and bus and order food to be delivered then bunker down to get away from it all. There is a pub within 10 minute walking distance and others a little further afield. Car hire is easy and fairly economical and we can recommend several taxi services.

Interaction with guest

We live right next door and whilst we totally respect your privacy we are also around if you have any questions about the house or the area. We can advise on things to do, places to see and to eat. We love living in the Lakes and we hope to help our guests share our enthusiasm for this beautiful and unique corner of 5he world.

“A most memorable 60th Birthday stay!”

Every part of this stay was wonderful. Helen took care of everything with such thoughtfulness. The welcome tea tray with home made cake, the quality of everything in the house for our use, the logs provided and fire set - we settled in without delay and enjoyed every minute of this special weekend. Thanks a million - we hope to return with friends very soon.

The house and garden were gorgeous and had everything you could possibly need. The house is huge, with beautiful rooms including the drawing room and main bedroom. It's extremely comfortable, fabulous bed in the main bedroom. The garden has loads of space to sit out, play games and explore. Helen's food was delicious. The perfect hosts Helen and John.5 stars

“A wonderful experience”

We spent a long weekend at Eller How House and are already considering when we could possibly return. The house is stunning, beautifully furnished, with a big kitchen and nice dining area. There is a fire place which became the focal point of our time there and has left many great memories. The grounds around the house are also great for exploring, with stunning views within a very reasonable walk. The surrounding areas are also great to explore, if you can bear to tear yourself away from the house! Finally, the owners, Helen and John have been a pleasure to correspond with. Ready to supply a selection of ideas for our time there and also kindly baking a cake for our arrival! Thank you again to them for a great stay.

“Fabulous!!! Don't hesitate to stay here”

We stayed with my wife and 3 year old daughter, another couple and their 2 young children and dog over New Year, we had chosen Eller House because of the ratings on here and it did not disappoint. The weather was windy and rain but this did not bother us, if we didn't wrap up warm and get out and about we just got the fire going and stayed in the beautiful front room with the high ceilings and got comfy. You would think a house this roomy would be cold but it heats up very well and very cosy. It was very clean on arrival, the hosts had made us a Victoria sponge and invited us to explore the vast grounds which are amazing and go up onto the fell which we did and has great 360 degree views. Said we could chop logs we found on the grounds for the fire (which we did each morning before breakfast) and recommended some great local attractions and pubs to eat at and there are plenty closeby. The rooms themselves are very spacious especially the living room and master bedroom with huge bathroom and roll top bath and balcony, downstairs the kitchen diner is large and has everything your kitchen will have so no need to bring anything with you, also a laundry with washer/dryer, spare fridge, recycling and the boot room was big enough for 7 of us and a dog to get ready in. The 2 downstairs rooms are large and both ensuite, one has a great powerful shower. We found the booster for the wi-fi has sorted the problem that others had commented on and i had plenty of phone signal on my EE phone although the others on O2 had no signal at all (personally i think its a plus if on holiday anyway)!!! Overall we had a great stay and will recommend it to anyone, the children loved the space to run aroun din, it was excellent value, just a lovely house and grounds, generous friendly hosts who couldn't do enough for you, excellent communication with them before and after, a great place to stay and explore the south of the lakes and when your done settle down in front of the log fire and relax. Perfect.

“An experience for all - enchanting and marvelous”

The house is a beautiful period property and sits elegantly within the contrasting rugged, yet sympathetically landscaped surroundings. Walks around the grounds are a must, as they boast a pleasant array of manicured gardens, including a quaint lake and private forest with idiosyncatic dry-stone walls and vacant outbuildings. The interior of Eller How house is as exciting and eloquently romantic as the exterior. Unique original features, including ornate conices and carvings, sash windows and a cast iron bath, really do set the scene for a romantic, family centric or last minute group get-away. The local amenities are to be found at a short car ride-away into Cartmel, Grange Over Sands or various other quaint villages along its path. Good restaurants and pubs are in their abundance and the lake Windermere is only an additional short ride away to the north of the house. In addion to this, the owners really are charming and make one feel welcome and help with any questions, and their wealth of knowledge on the surrounding area is of precious insight. I would recommend this property to my friends and family and would happily visit again within the future. Simply Charming.

“Magical Eller How House”

We had a wonderful few days at Eller How House. It is set beyond a picturesque lake at the foot of the woods .We arrived in the late afternoon, after following the comprehensive directions send by John and Helen , There was milk in the fridge and a homemade Victoria Sandwich, which was most welcome. The house was warm and welcoming, with a large well equipped kitchen and dining area. All the bedrooms were charming with plenty of clean, crisp bedlinen.The owners have impeccable taste as the whole house is beautifully decorated and each room has such character. The drawing room was a great place to unwind before the log fire which John and Helen had 'dressed' for our first night. We could all find our own 'space' to relax if we wanted,which was wonderful as our children are 16 and 13. The South Lakes location gave us a good base to explore the immediate areas of Windermere, Hawkshead, Cartmel, Grange over Sands and Coniston. There were plenty of local shops within a short drive for all our needs. Best of all were the grounds around the property which were great to explore without being too far from the log fire.We certainly intend to visit again.

“Wonderful location and atmosphere”

We so enjoyed our stay at Eller How that we have plans to return again soon. Our accommodation was incredibly spacious, while at the same time managing to be very cosy. The whole house was very clean. One thing I especially appreciated was the fact that the kitchen was fully equipped with plenty of china and cutlery. Our hosts, Helen and John, were very welcoming and helpful. There is just so much to see and do in the immediate area and Eller How is ideally located. I would not hesitate to recommend Eller How to anyone wanting to holiday in the Lake District.

Eller How House is beautiful, luxurious whilst homely. The service and hospitality provided by the owners was just perfect. Evenings spent in the 'drawing room' as we called it, were so relaxing and fire-lit. Our son loved exploring the grounds. We found it the perfect base for exploring the lakes. We hope to go back! Great holiday.

If you are going to the Lakes this house is a wonderful experience and place to stay. From the booking process with Helen and John through to the time we left everything was superb! A superb and truly magnificent house! A real 'wow' factor! The photos really do not do it justice. It is simply stunning! The attention to detail was amazing. Helen and John really had thought of everything. Immaculately clean, lovely white towels and fresh, clean crisp linen. Such a beautiful property - it is really very special. Felt quite regal ! The home made cake on arrival was wonderful. The decor is superb! If you are looking for something really special then this is the place to stay! Have stayed in many rental properties and this ranks as one of the best! Thank you Helen and John. We wish we could have stayed there longer! A really peaceful and serene haven. We will be back! “Magical House”

Eller House is a beautiful large house - it is set in a tranquil setting that children would love to explore. The rooms are beautiful clean - the furnishings are of the highest quality - the beds are very comfortable. The owners filled the house with beautiful flowers from the garden - a fruit cake with milk was left on our arrival. Indeed I have stayed in the lakes many times and this is the most cleanest and loveliest home we have stayed in. It is half an hour drive to Windermere - about 40 mins to Ullswater. The owners are to be congratulated on their managing of this delightful property.
