Location description from owner

The England region

Perfectly placed for an abundance of activities. Go Ape Tree Top Adventure Centre is only a 15 mile drive and the area is rich in castles, gardens and history. Alnwick Castle, the location for Harry Potter's school Hogwarts, with beautiful gardens and a giant tree house for children to play in, is less than 40 minute's drive away. Balliffgate Museum Gallery in Alnwick is well worth a visit; as is the stunning castle at Bamburgh, spectacularly situated on a peak of basalt, overlooking the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and the gorgeous beach. The observatory at Kielder Water and Forest Park is less than a 30 minute drive and Beamish Museum in County Durham is a great day out.

Newbiggin-by-the-Sea

Newbiggin by the Sea is a historic fishing village that lines the northern arc of a sandy North Sea bay. The main street is lined with mature trees and the village is not a through route for traffic.

Just a short stroll from the apartment you will find the heart of the village with its wealth of eateries, vintage shops, art and leisure facilities. For provisions, there are 2 stores, butcher, baker etc. On the beach, there is a children's park close to the Maritime Centre with its beach front café and gift shop. Even in the height of the summer months, the beach (recently categorised as 'Excellent' by the Environment Agency) is never overcrowded so you will be able to 'relax to the max' during your stay. There are pubs, cafes /restaurants & shops a short stroll away.

Attractions within walking distance include Woodhorn Museum & Archive; QE2 Country park with lovely walks, eaterie and children's play area's. We are lucky to have several National Trust properties close by including Wallington Hall, Cragside and Seaton Delaval Hall. Among the many lovely walks locally, we have Northumberlandia - Lady of the North, and the beautiful Jesmond Dene.

Historical / religious places of interest include our many castles and Holy Island. We are central for the arts (Ashington, just 2 miles away, is the home of the famous Pitmen painters, who's paintings you can view at Woodhorn) . We are within a 30 minute drive of some spectacular concerts at the Sage Gateshead right next to the Millennium Bridge across the river Tyne.

For budding pirates, there is the pirate ship at 'Waves' swimming pool in Whitley Bay with slides and water cannons. Closer to home there is a pirate ship in our lovely Maritime Museum.

“Perfect in every way”

Reviewed 31 Dec 2016

Elaine couldn't have been anymore welcoming. Lots of lovely touches - milk and butter in the fridge, a tub of sweets for the kids, and the pirate themed games, books and dress up went down a treat with the kids as well. Great location, would highly recommend.
