Description from owner

Description

This Grade II listed Elizabethan Longhouse nestles beside the fascinating Georgian Priory House , set in one and a half acres of natural gardens and orchard. Relax beneath the lofty ancient oak beams in the large sitting room. A Padouk wood carved screen brought back from Karache in 1904 by Sir Frances Younghusband leads to a well equiped kitchen. Designer built in sympathetic Indian decor you will find everything you need to cook in style. The shower room still boast the original decorated handbasin. Comfy sofas, leopardskin curtains from the famous Biba shop in Kensington and a mesmerising array of artfacts and memorabilia make this peaceful cottage a unique romantic hideaway. A spiral staircase leads you to the minstrel's gallery bedroom. Two beautiful bedrooms in the main house can be reted on a B&B basis if you want to make a family party. We are on the outskirts of Long Bennington, a popular village with shops and two pub/restaurants, only minutes from the A1 between Grantham and Newark. Many places of interest are nearby, including Belton House and the historic market town, Newark on Trent . Secure off road gated parking is free. The owners live in Priory House so there is always help nearby.

“know when to fold them, know when to walk away.”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2017

It would be easy to repeat other people here. Suffice to say that I think the major effort to stay abreast of the maintenance and repair of a listed building (and I've owned one, so I know) either takes lots of energy, or, money and as you get older (and less active) it becomes an ever steeper slope. I think it's at a point for Roger and Carole where it's time.
