Description

This charming 2 bedroom apartment is situated on the first floor of a Georgian building in Edinburgh's celebrated New Town. Cumberland Street is a delightful, quiet little street within very easy walking distance of Princes Street and the city centre, as well as the magnificent Royal Botanic Gardens and the delightful (and less expensive) Stockbridge area with its wide range of bars, restaurants, galleries, boutiques and delicatessens. The property provides an ideal base from which to explore the most attractive features of Edinburgh.

The kitchen / living room faces the front of the apartment and has been recently refurbished to offer an attractive and convenient space with plenty of light. A comfortable leather sofa and 2 chairs are arranged around the fire place with a coal effect electric stove. In the sitting area, an old pine table with 2 chairs and a church pew makes a lovely spot in which to enjoy a meal.

The modern kitchen area is well equipped with a ceramic hob

The modern kitchen area is well equipped with a ceramic hob and electric oven, a microwave, toaster, dishwasher and washing machine as well as ample cookware, china cutlery and glass for those wishing to cook at home. TV / DVD and free WiFi are provided.

The apartment offers two light and pretty double bedrooms both furnished with double beds, bed side tables and lamps. Ample hanging space for both rooms is provided in a large walk in cupboard off the hallway. A modern shower room with walk-in shower and toilet area completes the accommodation.

The property is one of 6 apartments in a family-friendly block. It is ideal for couples, families or groups of friends.

The local area also has a strong literary tradition. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who created Sherlock Holmes, was born a few streets away, while Robert Louis Stevenson, author of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, grew up close by. Moreover, JM Barrie lived opposite while he was a student at Edinburgh University and before he went on to write Peter Pan. He undertook some of his early writing while sitting in the window overlooking our flat.

Please note that we cannot accept any hen or stag parties. We also require one of the guests to be 25 or over.

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

The city of Edinburgh is a wonderful place for a break with lots of history, culture, nightlife and a wide spectrum of things to do. It is little wonder that it regularly tops charts as the favourite place in the UK for traavellers to visit.

Attractions range from Edinburgh Castle to the Royal Yacht Britannia, and with events such as the world-famous Edinburgh International Festival and Festival Fringe, you are guaranteed a great time during your visit.

Edinburgh's greatest advantage is the compact city centre which allows you to walk to virtually all of its major attractions, taking in the atmosphere as you stroll along the historic streets. Yet, even in the heart of the city, wide green spaces are close by including Princes Street Gardens, within which the iconic Edinburgh Castle proudly sits.

New Town

Edinburgh's historic New Town is certainly not 'new'. Building began in 1765 and in the years that followed it became known throughout the world as a masterpiece of city planning. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site but remains a thriving community packed with houses, shops, restaurants and bars. Thankfully, the area retains almost all of the original neo-classical and Georgian period architecture.

Cumberland Street is a delightful, quiet little street in the heart of the New Town and in easy walking distance of Princes Street and the city centre, as well as the Bohemian Stockbridge area with its range of bars, restaurants, galleries, boutiques and delicatessens. The property provides an ideal base from which to explore a truly wonderful city.

“A Great Base to Explore Edinburgh”

Reviewed 10 Jun 2013

We spent 5 days in Edinburgh and were lucky enough to discover this apartment. Most of the apartments to rent are small but not all are cosy and this one definitely is! We traveled with a toddler and a friend so total of three adults and one toddler and the space was perfect. Great owners who are very accommodating and take a lot of pride in their apartment. Nicely appointed with all the necessary amenities, very comfortable bedrooms and great facilities. The location is great as well, as it's 10 minutes walk from the very center of Edinburgh (The Royal Mile), and there are conveniently located supermarkets nearby. The apartment resides in a 200-year-old building that has a lot of character and history and is definitely worth staying at for any length of time. Will be staying again on our next trip to Edinburgh!

“Pretty appartment, perfectly located”

Reviewed 27 May 2013

A great, warm greeting from the owner who was full of brilliant facts about his apartment and the local area. Conveniently located a little away from the city centre and from Stockbridge which is full of great bistros, restaurant and shops. Will definitely be looking to return in the future!

“Superb”

A beautiful flat in an excellent location in Edinburgh. Easy walk to Royal Mile, shops and cafes. Felt totally safe. Beds were great, facilities excellent. Appreciated the tourist information thoughtfully left. Patrick was easy to communicate with and made us feel most welcome. His son Conor let us into the flat and told us everything we needed to know. Flat has everything one could possibly need.

“Lovely apartment in a great location”

Reviewed 28 Apr 2013

The apartment is perfect for a short break in Edinburgh. It was very comfortable, bright and airy and surprisingly spacious. The location is great with George Street / Princes Street only a ten minute walk away and Stockbridge centre less than five. Stockbridge is a great place with some really good shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants and a lovely riverside walk, we ended up eating and drinking in the area for three of the four nights we stayed. I'd definitely recommend this apartment for stay in Edinburgh.
